I returned to my parked VW T5 campervan to find a passing vehicle had hit the driver's side mirror and broken it right off. The driver had stopped to leave the mirror on my windscreen, but then driven off.
I rang my breakdown insurance, and an AA man arrived within 10 minutes. It looked as if there was no way to reattach the mirror. But he set to work with masses of sticky tape and little wooden splints he made, and reattached the body of it. The glass was gone, so he got a sheet of plastic out of his van, trimmed it to shape, and stuck it on to serve as mirror glass, so the vehicle was legally driveable. The whole job took him about 1/2 hour.
I was tremendously impressed and grateful, and wanted to show it. But is an AA man some-one you can tip? I didn't know, so in the end I just shook his hand and said I appreciated it, but it seemed inadequate. OK, I know he gets paid, and I pay a lot in annual subscription, but what he did was really above and beyond what I had thought possible.
So, is an AA man some-one you can/should tip?
