I refilled the water system in my van and noticed that this filter thing is only full to the red arrow.

Should it be completely filled with water?

Ours was the other way up with the filter facing down when we had a shurflo pump on our previous van, and the giveaway to me is that the wording "shurflo" is upside down in the OP's photo.

Interesting! Mine have always been as the OP's and the pump has always purged the air out after a few minutes, I will turn it 180
BUT does that not mean that when I drain down for winter, water will be trapped there and if freezes, it might break the plastic cover???

Yes water will remain but just unscrew it to empty. If it is anything like mine it will need a clean out anyway! 😊

Does the air really matter?
The water will still flow through the gauze when under pressure.
I will need to check but from memory mine is also fitted like that.
I would be more concerned about frost damage if it was turned up side down.

The filter is easy to remove as the cover unscrews. This is my old one as i replaced pump which cam with a new filter. The left hand part is the filter inside the cover which as I say easily unscrews with one hand, provided you can get a good grip. If you look up a Shuffle water filter they are shown both ways up when you get the search results and costs from £6 to £10 or so. The pump self purges so if you wish to protect from frost once the system is empty remove the cover and cap off with a bag to keep it clean of grot but remember to replace when needed!

Thanks! Yes I know how easy it is especially now I renewed and moved my pump to behind my rear doors last year.
I open the door and 10mins later both pump and filter can be removed.

My concern is, if I put it, so the filter bowl is under, it will be another thing I will have to remember to do at drain-down time next winter and as I have never had any problems with air in my system, I will, eventually, position it on its side as a compromise. :giggle:

PS. I think I might have more success looking up Shurflo water filter rather than Shuffle.

The wonders of predictive text! I tend to overlook the spellcheckers until too late!

Do you have a problem with the water system or are you just curious?

Was just curious - though in the past, the pump has occasionally made a clicking sound and it wasn't until I refilled the system that I noticed the filter was half empty, and wondered if this might be the cause.

Thanks so much for your replies!

This way up is how it came fitted from Auto-trail 🤦‍♂️

I've moved it to the other way up.

Mine was the same way up on a Rapido . first full week out the pump kept on too often. The cap was cracked (leaking air) and no probs when renewed. Dealer may have just turned it around so it didnt drip. is that me being too cynical?

Any air in the presurised system will result in odd clicking of the pump even while you have not used it for a while.
The filter is before the pump so not pressurised

Good spot. Is that a directional arrow underneath as well? Is the flow going in the correct direction??

Agree with you, the filter is not under pressure, a bit of air makes no difference.
