I’m hoping to go visit my daughter at Uni in Aberdeen for a weekend in September for her birthday. We’d be driving up from Ayrshire Friday after work and need somewhere to stop en route. Then daytime parking in the city and somewhere to stay close by Aberdeen on the Saturday night. Any ideas?

Cove Bay appeals ... if motorhome are still allowed after the verdict against the fishing boats.

You would struggle getting down to Cove Harbour in a Motorhome. I was talking to my Father yesterday and he started speaking about the increase in motorhome numbers he observed parked along the beach. He also mentioned 2 or 3 vans parked in the second carpark at the Bay of Nigg yesterday. (first has height restriction)

The beach must be at least 3 miles long and is very wide, so you would have no problem parking there. I would suggest you head to the Footdee (Fittie) end where it will be much quieter. It is only a 15 minute walk to Union Street where you would get a bus to almost anywhere in the city. Parking is unlimited and your van would be safe there.

As for Bay of Nigg, lovely setting but would not advise leaving van unattended during the day.

Google Earth Links for you to look at the locations. I think the Beach would be best option a bus would also take you into town if the 15 minute walk was too much.

Scroll round both the links to see they are both stunning locations

Your daughter is at a great university ;)

Just thinking about you getting into town. Riverside Drive is another place I have camped overnight without any issues. Continue to the end of the road where it becomes a dead end road. Very quiet at night and safe to leave the van parked during the day and 2 minute walk around the corner for the 10 minute bus up to Union Street.

Not quite as scenic and a few "No Overnight Parking" signs but think they were directed at the huge lorries who used to use it causing upset to residents. I have never had an issue and have used it a number of times. Burger van there as well so perfect for bacon roll room service, just make sure you park well clear of it to prevent being disturbed.

I also would say the beach is your best bet. I noticed a few vans parked up there the other day, one was a quirky looking RV type thing. As @stewartwebr said the Fittie end of the beach would be your best bet.

Photos should give you an idea of what you will find. The large white building in the centre of the 2nd photo is public toilets and behind that is Fittie Square and the harbour which is worth a toddle round.

Anything else you want to know feel free to ask as I am local to the area.
