As the weather’s been typically changeable i.e. cold and wet mostly, we decided to go somewhere close to home for a few days.

So we’re at Sleningford, near West Tanfield near Ripon. Took us just an hour to get here.
Lovely pitch overlooking the river. Site beautifully maintained, with lush grass and trees everywhere. Very friendly and helpful wardens Paul and Amanda.

Today was sunny and warm and and we were close to a swim in the river. Maybe tomorrow or Thursday. Nice to be so close to home too.

Sorry about my double post. Wifi signal was very weak and I tried to post two photos and the message(s) disappeared so I wasn’t sure they had been posted. And I see that the photos haven’t! May try again later if signal improves.

rye or something else?

We've done a couple of these short trips recently to get away. Only one night twice.

50 minutes over to the coast, taking the long road to avoid a winding hill ascent and decline, but we're transformed into holiday mode on the way and the kids are not complaining (much) about such a run.

Plus, if the weather closes in, then it's the same time back again and no hassle - you have the telly, space, your own bed etc, again and no great effort made or diesel burned.

Truth is, you wouldn't want to go too far in the van I have anyway!!
