3 years 30,000 miles UK and Europe.. Campsites and off Grid.
I have found a campsite in Scotland which will allow me to park the motorhome for a week while we are on a walking holiday. However, I just discovered that my insurance will only allow 48 hours stored away from home.

I will ask them about this when I ring up to renew in a week or so but does anyone have any ideas about this. Will I be able to get some kind of short term cover?

I doubt it: Think it is standard that the van cannot be left unattended for over 48 hours

Saga actually cancelled my insurance when I asked the question - saying because I’d asked, I would likely do it!!

Who’s to know you didn’t come back to the van each day at 4.00am in the morning to feed the dog?

Comfort say you need to inform them if over 48 hours providing its somewhere fairly safe they don't have a problem with it.

We leave our van unattended for periods longer than a week and never consider the insurance restrictions...we prefer to enjoy the adventure we are about to embark on...,,👍😀

That decision would for most people depend on the value of the van, with most new ones now around or over £100k not many would be prepared to leave them with a risk of no insurance.

Have you seen that somewhere in writing or was that verbal?

I am not sure I would risk losing £70,000.

Think you will find it is there quiet clear in the comfort policy. I know I have seen it and posted the txt a few times on here.
I have left our vans in Spain a few times over the years while flying home for a few days, sometimes at campsites and storage places. A gamble I took as I knew the condition on the policy. Luckily all was ok but each has to make their choice.

Until I read about it on here it would never have occurred to me that a vehcile destined for travelling could not be left anywhere for as long as you wished?
What is the difference to having it parked outside your house then going to aussie for up to 6 months & no one looking at it ?
This must also apply to cars & vans then as they are far more likely to be left for days on end if not weeks? If not why not?

Exactly.

True but we need to get the Uk scamming insurance industry back to doing what it is supposed to do & covering vehicles for any driver , unlimited mileage & get them to crack down on the authorities & get them doing far more against thieves & chancers & not taking the easy way out & penalising the mugs in the middle ,which is what they are doing.

Normally only on Motorhome policies but it does apply on some expensive cars.

That would be really welcome, it seems like it's only the UK that has crap insurance terms.

All I can say is that when it comes to fulfilling their part of the contract and paying out a large sum of money, if the Insurers can find any reason no to, believe me, they will not pay out. In other words, "cover your arse".
