We spent a month in southern France in June. Now we've joined our daughters and their families in the Vendeé.

We took the Poole Cherbourg crossing while the offspring took the fast one from Portsmouth. Poor things! They didn't know of its reputation as the vom ferry. It lived up to its name.

Our first night was at Camping Valleé de la Selune at Pontaulbault. Lovely little site run by an English family who have been there for 24 years. 17 euros all in. They run a tiny on site café where a margherita would set you back 5 euros.

We moved on to the Vendeé to meet said offspring at a site chosen with children in mind. Camping Acapulco, St Jean de Monts.Their mobile homes are fine. Our emplacement however would fit onto a pocket handkerchief and is bordered by a neighbouring camp's swimming pool. The noise is loud and constant. It costs 38 euros a night. Hopefully there are beaches nearby to escape to.

We move on in five days time. Hopefully it will be quieter.

I forgot to mention that last trip's technology disaster was that a newly bought Tom Tom Trucker could not find where we were, at any cost. We returned it and bought an Aguri that worked out of the box. We wasted a whole weekend trying to sort out the former.

This time, the indicators on the van failed catastrophically. Mike tested the fuses. Probably the flash can or blinker unit that's defunct.

And it's 11.50 and it's still kicking off very loudly outside. We're here to be with our grandchildren but are thinking of leaving tomorrow, though we've paid upfront.

We've just returned from the Vendee with our children and grandchildren. We stayed inland at a site called Pins Parasol, very family friendly. Full of Brits but the grandchildren had a great time in the smaller pool. As with everything that time of year very expensive. Recommended though. We're off on our own tomorrow heading to south of france and spain. Peace....

The noise is still unendurable here. They made us pay in advance - a bad sign. Avoid Camping Apaculpo!

Well, we travelled on with daughters and their families, to Jard du Mer and Camping L'Ocean d'Or. This was a pleasanter site, with large emlplacements. The younger generation were pleased with the pool complex which was large enough to be interesting, but small enough to keep an eye on the children.

Quieter than Acapulco, but quite noisy. In fact one evening was exceptionally loud as the resident DJ was doing his last gig.

It's a pleasant area, with a sprinkling of cafés and restsurants at the nearby Port de Plaisance. The beaches are not as good as those around St Jean but they're fine.

Home now but all worked out well in the end.
