Likewise off the coast of Ghana.. remember watching cargo vessels discgarging all manner of cargo into surf boats to get it ashore.(y)
And often getting a good soaking before getting there...

These remarkable photos were taken in the 1980s, when a liner company called Unicom operated a service to Moroni, Comoros Islands. At the time, this was the only means of getting the containers ashore.”

I stand corrected!

A Woosh bang
Seeing these containers being shifted like that reminded me of my days working on a mine in RSA during the 70s ,

I saw tasks being undertaken by humans that would be inconceivable today.. huge electrical transformers being manhandled across the bushveld on logs .. steel hoist cables, as thick as a man's arm being pulled up to the top of a mining shaft headgear by hand.. hundreds of black miners heaving and hauling it up the steep incline .. all singing and chanting.. it was mesmerising watching this cable, moving snake like to the beat of the song.

On the mine, when anything needed moving or lifting, no matter how big or heavy, the only question asked was how many people do you need ..

It` a different world out there, or at least was. We sailed that bit of the world on a regular basis after they closed SUEZ (6 Day war). (n)We missed being locked in the bitter lakes by just 24hrs!.(y) Others where not so lucky. When they finally freed the ships most went for scrap!.:(
