Oh dear, another thread gone from comment, opinion, good natured banter to an undertone of unpleasantness - why ? Can't we all play nicely please

I can't see how it was ever a good natured thread. See quote below from the original poster...

QUOTE="Clever Claire, post: 1604304, member: 39672"]Whoever you are, if you are reading this, shame on you. The photograph clearly shows your motorhome disgorging a huge puddle of grey water with your number plate clearly visible. You are now famous and I'm sure we will all look for you on our travels in future, I know I will. You get us all a bad name. You are NOT forgiven.[/QUOTE]

I think it was a witch-hunt! As I said in my earlier post, I'd be changing my registration plates if I was the guy in the photo.

Just out of interest Claire, what do you intend to do to the guy when you catch up with him?

OK, as the instigator of this topic which has caused great interest, here is my final word. My point is this, although I do think that irresponsible discharge of waste water is wrong I realise that this type of behaviour is not restricted to Britons. The French press has acted in a xenophobic manner in publishing the letter and accompanying photo to the detriment of UK motorhomers. It is the fault of the Kon Tiki man and his alleged reaction to being reprimanded that has caused the incident. It has served only to give the French a stick to beat us with. The photograph and letter were only published because the van was British.

To see the page from Le Monde Du Camping car use the link below. I have obscured the number plate, if you want this information, you will have to buy your own copy of the magazine.

You very aptly use the word 'instigator'.....

You seem hell bent on promoting the article published in the French periodical - despite the fact that its based on what 'allegedly happened'.

Its a bit of dirty water - not plutonium!!

In some European country's you can't even wash vehicles at home because of detergents running into water system.

This will give you an idea.....

http://www.kent.gov.uk/waste-planning-and-land/flooding-and-drainage/drainage-systems

Yes here. Illegal to wash your vehicle in the street or even on your own property.

Agree with that..
I have a self build camper... my shower facilities is outside the back doors with a shower curtain up..
Saves me putting it through the waste tank...
Other than possibly bits of food waste been discharged it's much the same and I've never thought I was been antisocial or disgusting in any way...until now :D:giggle:
But I don't suppose it will stop me washing if I need one lol..
Andy.

You are all right as long as you don't use soap.:D

People are paranoid about grey waste. Yes it can be greasy and laden with sweetcorn, but it will not harm the environment one jot. And in my experience, neither will untreated black waste for that matter. That said, the dumping of it should be considerate of others.

French or English. Anyone who lets a load of grey go on a pitch others have to occupy deserves all that comes their way. Had I seen it, I'm pretty sure I'd have taken a pic and posted it here. :)

Frankly a ridiculous thread!

Come next Summers drought, all campsite, mine included will be asking people to use their grey water to water the plants and bushes

Add to that the thread is about picture of an English van allegedly doing something as reported in a foreign newspaper!

This is motorhome FUN not facts! and yet we get a kangaroo court ready to hang some one based on 100% no evidence what so ever!

I have emptied my grey water down drains, and will continue to do so when the need arises. Most of the time campsites grey points are little more than soakaways any way.

As I say, the next drought and the water boards will be suggesting that we bath with a friend and then water the roses with the used bath water.

And please don't put words in my post, I am not suggesting that I park up on a road and let my waste dribble away, nor do I wash my Thetford out under the drinking tap (I don't need a Thetford) But yes, f I needed to I would pour grey water down a drain!

Just a couple of thoughts
No I don't like to see grey waste dumped in an irresponsible way . More than once I have been behind a MH with the tap dribbling water which ends up over the following vehicles

Now re the MH in question - that was a couple of months ago - if the photo is published on here showing the registration number what if the original owner has sold it on and a new owner is then tackled about the previous owners misdemeanours ??

Think about it !!!!

There's the pic. .
I'd have said something. . Minging and a bad advert for us all.
I don't think the op has done anything wrong here btw.
I don't see what the problem is in criticising someone who that blatantly pours his waste water where someone else may be parking in a few minutes.
It's not about french guys peeing or .. it's about this guy being a dingbat and not caring. This may be fun.. but that's not funny . Thanks to the op for pointing it out.

So there has been a lot said as to what we all think about this "out pour". It seems we all think it is a bad practice to empty in such a location. So here is a story of a home version.....

Some time ago we left Black Knowl - Brockenhurst. The mh next to us left his pitch and we followed him out , but we stopped to drop keys into reception so were a few minutes behind him. As we got around the corner he was emptying his waste across the road. As we got behind him he jumped in and drove off.

I contacted the Caravan Club and gave them the info with vehicle make and registration number and also the pitch number.

Their response was that they we unable to find his details and therefore could not pass on a polite "reminder" - Rather annoying when its a members only site - so they don't know who has stayed there then - or perhaps he just drove in for two nights and wild camped next to me with wife and three kids !!!

It seems a bit strange to me, not going on about wether right or wrong, if he'd gone back another couple of yards it would have been on the grass and no one would have known.

I've hired narrowboats on a number of occasions and never the same boat....ALL the grey waste goes directly into the canal....washing up, shower and sink. Even the toothpaste if you've just spat it in the sink...

If it's supposed to be bad for aquatic life etc, surely these boats wouldn't be allowed to deposit it in such a way.

Exactly what I was about to post. Even looks like it might be a gulley before the hedge.

This is my FRENCH point of view:

What I think is , we all have taboos, things we don’t like and things we can stand or even don’t care about. It doesn’t make of us all, bad persons…just different .

This English man shouldn’t have been given names, and that French man shouldn’t have been allowed to show his van!

Oi, you lot...leave off Claire...I think she was just reporting what she'd seen in a French magazine and the words were those published in the magazine not her own, ...as such they are of interest to all of us but its unfair to suggest any witch hunt is by her. Her post has certainly caused plenty of discussion, all of which is welcome, but let's stay respectful.

No one has disrespected Claire, well done to her for bringing it up , it's the content written by someone else that is a bit dodgy.
