You need to post all the specs that should be printed on it. A picture would help with size.

If it's the capacitor from presser foot they are available under sewing machine spares. Try Amazon or Ebay.

its across live and neutral behind the switch its a singer 522 went pop just as she was sewing my mask

If it is across line and neutral it is used as a suppressor, the machine will work without it,although it may cause interference on tv and radio

I did think it might be a suppresor but machine definitely stopped and smoked a bit and found it burnt out

Try Ebay , that's where I have sourced them in the past. You just need make and model number.

Sorry, in my original post I said presser, it should have been foot control.

The capacitor doesn't look that bad to me, when components get smoked they usually lose all writing, colour codes etc and just look black. Did the fuse blow in the plug? I have a feeling the motor has burnt out ?

Suppression capacitor, PME = metallised paper, 0.22uF = 220nF. Can't see the voltage, but 275V should be good enough. Something like this:

Edit: Sorry, MyrtleGuru already found one.

Hit a problem !
All the .22uF I have are only 100volts working
As there is a good chance it is going across the mains I would recommend at least 300 v w and ideally 350 v w or above due to transient spikes etc
I do have a .1uF that should work just as well as the .22 that blew
