Hi folks. Can any one recommend a good restaurant near the Setthorns campsite in the New Forest? We have decided to spend Christmas down there and would like a slap up dinner on Christmas Eve.

When we camp up in the forest we go for a meal at The Trusty Servant in Minstead, nice family pub and reasonably priced as well.

Thanks for recommendation. I should have said within walking distance of the site, or a short taxi journey. But we may still give your restaurant a try.

Anywhere good in Sway. I have promised by others half that in exchange for going camping at Christmas he will get a slap up meal on Xmas Eve. We usually have a house full of people and I spend the day cooking on Xmas Eve, then too tired to enjoy Xmas Day. this year I intend to go cycling on Xmas Day!!

The Wheel at Sway is a fabulous little pub and they have a well patronised restaurant there too. Haven't been there for years but it always was very good.....Griff

If you could make it as far as Lymington then they have a particularly good Cafe Uno in the main drag

There's a couple of nice pubs on the Brockenhurst road.

The Hobbler is very good with a carpark large enough to get the motorhome in.

Don't know if they are doing Christmas day menu tho.

New pub/Bistro/restaurant opened in Sway back in the summer. Where the Nurses Cottage was--opposite Post Office. http://www.silverhind.co.uk/ Only eaten there once, food very good.

Hare and Hounds a bit further away at the far end of Sway from Setthorns. Always welcoming, great log fires.

Christmas / Rainmass at Setthorns

Well Christams was a bit of a wash out at Setthorns. In fact the New Forest was nearly washed away!!

Can definitely recommend the Silver Hind though. Lovely food and a great welcome for us and our dog.

It was just a shame I came down with a rotten cold and cough on Christmas Day, but we still had a good dinner, with a 4 bird roast cooked in portable halagan oven and roast potatoes on the BBQ!
