Hi, I recently bought a new (to me) motorhome. The service book is empty and although the dealer was going to get it serviced before sale, there is no evidence of that. The dealer is just saying the evidence is in the pack they gave me, which it isn't.

So, it will probably be easier just to try and find out myself. Does anyone know if there is somewhere online i can go to and find out what the service history of my moho is? I know with my Mercedes I could just see the SH online.

Thanks

Gerry

Is there any history with it eg habitation. If mine ever gets moved on it would have been serviced by an enthusiastic engineer owner ie me but will have hab service history (required for warranty purposes). I have the intention of leaving an sd card with all soft instructions and invoice copies. My up! Didnt even come with a service book, all done online.

You can track it’s mot history by going on to the DVLA site, this you will probably know.
But warranty and service history will take a bit of digging. Good luck.

Just found out from Fiat, they don't have a central database like Mercedes. Paper is the only evidence!!

Should I worry that there is no service history or is that quite normal (I think I know the answer!)?

I hope the dealer did actually service it before sale as advised but I want proof of that now!

Even if the dealer stamps the book he may not have done the service I'm afraid.

We get our vehicles done at a local garage and keep the invoices and receipts.

Vehicle side take a look at the oil, what colour is it, is the oil filter new, has the sump plug been removed recently?

Have a good look around to see if there is any evidence of things being greased, oiled, cleaned etc.

Habitation side, does everything work as it should?
Gas bottle hoses and straps in good condition, smoke alarm working, toilet cassette seal lubricated?

Or alternatively go back and ask them to complete the supporting paperwork.

Even service history in the service book isn't neccesarilly true.
Easy enough to buy a hooky rubber stamp on ebay and fill in the mileage etc then stamp it.
A base vehicle dealer should have an invoice record but a backstreet garage taking cash most likely won't.

Whats the mileage and age?
If its not mega miles I would see whats due, get it done and not worry about it.
But if the dealer was selling with a history and a fresh service I would expect that to be done also.
Or get the price adjusted accordingly.

Many vehicles are bought by dealers at auctions (bereavement sale, repossessions etc....) and it's quite common for the vehicles' paperwork to be missing or incomplete.

You need to ask the dealer for proof of payment for having the service done (assuming they didn't do it), then you can contact the garage and ask for a copy of what work was carried out, checks done etc, this way you will know that it has probably been done due to a payment being made for your vehicle as it would lay them both open to Trading Standards investigation if the paperwork was falsified and possibly other charges as well.

So your saying its a fiat but it would help to know what model of vehicle, what age and what mileage?
I am thinking of the cambelt in particular which is not a cheap service job
Best wishes
Mike

That does surprise me.

The online MOT history may provide some useful information and maybe help you track down its service history.

I have just bought a VW caddy Maxi Life it doesn't have a service book, I contacted be and they emailed me the full record, which I had anyway. I assume the service record is only updated if a VW garage is used. I have set up a spreadsheet with the service dates and embedded copies of the service reports. I will keep this updated for as long as I have it, it's out of warranty on 18 months and I will most likely look for a less costly service option then, so the spreadsheet will be the same as a book when I sell it

Hi Mike, it is a 2018 with 2,500 miles on the clock.
Fiat 1st service is due at 2 yrs 28,000 miles or 1 low mileage service at 1 yr.. dont think you have much to worry about.
It's more than 2 years old though so should've had the first service at least so he does need proof that it's been done.

Just tell the dealer you want written proof, or you will get it service by a main dealer for the chassis/engine side and sue him for the cost. As they stated they would service it as part of the contact of sale.

The issue of history and what delear promised are 2 different things. With such low mileage i have heard of delears offer low mileage service only.(this still gets a stamp in book). When op talks of history i was thinking at least 5 years 30,000 miles.. at his mileage age i would be more concerned about corrosion due to standing in flood water at a sea side location. The reliance on service books depends on your experience of fraud / how often you sell. I took £500 on the nose when i wouln't pass on a dodgy book. I mate at work killed a deal on a bmw m3 when 3 years of history was defeated with a simple phone call " we are a alfa romeo dealer what would we do with a bmw".
With no paperwork (not necessarily a stamped book) , I agree it needs a full service now.

Sorry to disturb you but in my opinion its not far off needing a cam belt, simply due to age ? Or am I just being negative?

I would want the evidence of habitation checks for warranty purposes, I'm in the same position, luckily I have a service invoice, but none of the Moho service books have been stamped.

Also Gerry if you have any issues, I have given you my personal mobile number, please ring it instead of going public on a forum.
I remember ringing you at 8pm on a Friday night out of hours to make sure I replied to you.

Simon, unfortunatley this is the worst experience I have ever had when purchasing a vehicle, I should not have to email you to get the service history (actually I have emailed you twice about this very subject), it should be part of handover, like a lot of things Alan Kerr should have provided which I won't go in to here.

Until this point I never mentioned your company. If I could get throught to you, believe me I would. You called me back because you thought the deal was falling through.
Let's not do this here because you won't end up looking very good as well you know.

Again Gerry when you email me at 4pm on a Friday and I ring you on my personal phone at 8pm on a Friday night to make sure I have returned your call as the general manager as well I don’t know what more I can do. You say this is the worst buying experience you have had, yes you waited a while because we were simply overwhelmed, overstretched but your van was amazing. I would like to point out you were one of the most difficult customers I have ever had to deal with and I would happily clean your burstner and give it back to you and have my van back. I have had emails with you raving at me because I have happened to have one of my 3 days a month off when you emailed.
I am going to say publicly as your clearly not happy and I don’t think you ever will be that I am more than prepared to clean your old van, re tax and have my van back and not deal with you again.
When we are stretched as thin as we are, bullies and threats are not fair. I have a good name and no doubt this post will get heat but I will not deal with people being rude to me or my team who I am proud of.

OK, as I said, I had no intention of naming your company and I didn't. Now that you have introduced Alan Kerr in to the conversation I will obviously respond as I will not have you unfairly calling my character in to question. You know you are not telling the truth so over the next day or so I will write a considered respone to your post rather than a knee-jerk reaction to your incorrect recollection. If I can warn people of what to expect when dealing with you then at least prospective customers will have their customers set at the right level.

Gerry if your not happy please bring the van back. The main issues were that you used a third party finance company and this slowed things down. We tried to move mountains for a fellow Funster but this was hard as I had no control over the payout.
Also I don’t know if I am allowed to post this but your last email…
Bearing in mind I run the dealership and I am on a Motorhome forum after working for 21 days straight to try and keep a customer happy and I get this sent through…….
