I found the original post regarding a few 'local' funsters coming round for a giggle not to be advertising in anyway at all, no mention of a rally or meet of any sorts, bit of a storm in a T cup as far as I'm concerned, perhaps Steve should have asked another Funster to promote a New years eve meet or rally at his place but he's only got 5 pitches anyway so not going to make him a rich man overnight.
well put mate why not have a meet at the lazy buzzard or red kite

One or two may have pushed a report button, hundreds of others did not..

I didn't. Smacks of "moderator", it would have to be pretty terrible before I push one. I'd be useless as a forum owner, I'd not keep it under control.

I did press it once, it was some strange attempt at spamming but I can't remember properly.

This whole matter needs discussing face to face... I call a meeting, at a convenient time, at QMJ for everyone to discuss it... but remember the meeting must pause every hour for two minutes while we kneel and face West Wales and sing the Red Kite Song...

Please bring pick axes, spades and big buckets... anyone with a small garden tractor with a plough and grass cutting attachment will be very welcome... if you bring a JCB I will waive any fees owing... (FB Pie per person per night)

Remember, QMJ is the ONLY unofficial Funster site with practically no facilities what so ever... but if you like the smell of pine mixed with eucalyptus and like watching nature (and a superb anthill) then it is the best conference centre in Europe (apart from Eastlands of course.)

JJ

and no jokes about heading back to the "Conference" league please...

Many will have noticed that if someone joins to sell something they are immediatley banned. That has not happened, this is why.

A couple of people reported Steves Posts, when I checked his post history I noticed that around half of Steves posts did make reference to his Motorhome related businesses. Steve clearly has not read the Link Removed, but none of those posts were serious enough breaches to earn the outright ban. Which is why he is still here with just a smiley faced warning and a challenge to make 20 posts without mentioning his business.

The people who reported the posts did so in good faith, this resulted in the friendly warning. If Steve is a genuine enthusiast then I'm sure he'll continue with his input and accept the challenge. If not, we'll draw our own conclusions. I for one look forward to seeing him post again.

I always hesitate to post anything in this sort of thread where everyone is throwing their dollies out of the pram.:Eeek:
This sort of thread is the kind of thing we came to this forum to avoid. Misunderstandings frequently occur when communication is by writing only.
Having met him, I believe Steveutwg is completely above board and any apparent advertising was unintentional and only with a view to meeting more of us. At £10 a night he will have to live to be 100+ to see any return on his investment anyway.

Steve, please don't do anything precipitate over a misunderstanding of the site rules, in particular not the CC as most of us are not members

Thank You for your comments, I just get very upset when people accuse me of pushing our information in order to make a profit! You say 100 Years more like a 1000. We do it because we love the life NOT the Money!!!

I think I need to clarify something with you! You say I stand before you accused of self promotion, as I have thrown some info into the ring about a product, then invited Funsters to come and socialise, two well meaning bits of info, that seem to have hit a nerve!

Why is it that everytime you put up a post, it always comes with an advert for your books! is that infact also some kind of self promotion too? Perhaps you can see why my blood is starting to boil... Maybe it's time to consider adopting accociate members who for a small additional fee, have the approval to mention what they do, without people complaining, helping to make this forum a better place!

I read in this forum, there are intentions to beat Motorhome Facts, yes I am a member there too! I agree with many this is the better forum, after all forum's by there very nature, are for an exchange of information, I always try to write, in an informative and thoughtfull manor, trying to help where ever I can. If the information benefits people then it's worth it.

Hi all, this is only an idea simply because I do not know how the trade membership thing works IE money, sponsorship etc, but clearly people who pay towards the site get away (rightly so ) with a little free advertising, plus most give good advice as well on a variety of subjects. So since I am interested in finding out where our members with site are etc,(just in case I am around that area and fancy meeting or avoiding :winky:) why not make a MEMBERS SITES column on the left hand side along the arcade, garage etc that the members can access, and the mini trade members could pay an extra tenner membership for the privilege of doing so.That way nobody has to promote there site and members can see who / what is where.--- this is just an idea so don't shoot the messenger ::bigsmile:

My only problem with commercial posters is that unless it is clear that they have a financial interest you may give more weight to advice than you would otherwise.

For instance if someone was a motorhome dealer and recommended a specific make or model.... Are they recommending it because they have stock or are a dealer for that manufacturer or is the advice totally unbiased?

Or a company that deals in Gaslow recommends the gaslow system even though an alugas or fixed tank may be better?

Total transparency is the best way in my opinion. Either no advertising in posts or a clear marker to say the poster is trade and his recommendations and advice may be biased by his/her commercial interests.

Please note this is not aimed at anyone and is just my feeling across all hobbyist sites.

I run a business and avoid all mention of my business on hobby forums. I will occasionally mention what I do but with no links to the company or reference to the services I offer. I feel this is the best way with forums.

Steve I am sorry your blood is boiling, clearly you could have saved your blood pressure if you'd have bothered to Link Removed That said, I have already posted twice now that you were not in serious breach of them, that is why you have not been banned, just challenged to post without mentioning your businesses. Is that so hard? Why that should make your blood boil; I don't know.

As for associate members. How much do you think I should charge traders to be able to "mention" their services all day, an extra tenner a year to reach 30,000 monthly viewers and ruin a forum with their spam. No thanks that won't make this a better place.

This is an enthusiasts forum, not a platform for traders to sell stuff or reach a targeted audience for free, not even is passing. those are the rules you agreed to when joining, nothing has changed.

The reason you see adverts in my signature is because I pay an absolute fortune for them to appear there.

I hope you have calmed down now and I look forward to your input, I'm sure your experience will be appreciated by many. Thanks

Hi Jim I am assuming this refers to my post ::bigsmile: I am not saying you should only charge a tenner (just suggested) but the sites could be stuck out of the way in the column there by only accessed by clicking onto it there fore stopping all the blatant links.Or if members want to show a link they should pay for it via the LHC or join as trade members paying the appropriate fee :thumb: Either way the site is doing good as it is( I enjoy it) even with the odd sneaky add or two :thumb:::bigsmile:

No It doesn't refer to your post Terry, Steve said about associate members in the post I quoted,

CL owners can already put a link in their signatures, no problem

Thanks for clarifying that Jim :thumb: I knew in the back of my mind that you allowed some sort of link to some people and can now understand a bit more as to why some get away with it while others don't.

I am not a trader in any form

Thanks for clarifying that Jim :thumb: I knew in the back of my mind that you allowed some sort of link to some people and can now understand a bit more as to why some get away with it while others don't.
terry

While I am not a trader in any form on this or the RVOC site I do have a link at the bottom of the page to a site which shows my RV (Which is not for sale) but shows the vehicle as I purchased. It is there to hopefully show others that an RV not much bigger than a Euro box does not have to cost the earth.

I made it very clear in the earliest post in response to ScotJim that I had hit the report button. I considered the number of self advertising this new member had put in his posts was a lot compared to long standing members. Then he was making a blantant bid to sell alarm systems. If I wanted to read adverts I would buy and look at the MMM it is full of adverts. I joined MHF and RVOC to get informed information from other owners, not up and personal in adverts.

New members often think the site is a quick easy place to promote there wares. I felt that this was the case and as such used the report button.

Rick is as guilty as any for his promotion of his truck driving school, however he does put a lot of posts on the RVOC and some on MHF... Peter of John's Cross does push the envelope at times in my view, but he is a helpful person to members in need. I could run off a list as long as my RV of dealers that do the same. I, as a member accept that a certain amount of self promotion goes on. But as Jim pointed out the new member had a bad ratio. That is what I saw.

As far as Jim promoting his own books ... hell, it is his site and works very hard for us on both the RVOC and the MHF sites and that is his right to do so. Perhaps if our new members came to one of the many meets that the MHF runs at shows he would see Jim working very hard as a marshall or cooking the bacon for the rolls on the Sunday. I do not always agree with Jim's views but I do accept he has the right to run the site as he wishes and the rules he has should be accepted by all of us when we join.

Will I report in the future>>>>>>>>> yes. If I feel someone is trying it on I certainly will.

Any one want to hgv training call now :ROFLMAO: :ROFLMAO: :ROFLMAO:

This is my first and last advert :ROFLMAO::ROFLMAO::ROFLMAO:

Because believe it or not Bob I have never promoted my business on here or RVOC, it is not in my signature, the only time it is mentioned is when I am giving information that is asked for to prove I am giving correct info.

Also my business is localised to a point, although we have trained people from as far away as Spain, so to advertise on here would never bring in the amount of business we need.

All the best Rick
