Prompted by a post tonight what’s the consensus on these after market self levelling systems ? I’m not keen on carrying the extra weight TBH but thought I would ask

I pressume you have read my post about my blow out, tyre changed in less than 10 minutes of it bursting, fantastic bit of kit would not be without it not just because of tonight but that really made me think money well spent
May I ask how much you spent and what was the added weight ?

A lot of money but well worth it.
The E&P system fitted to ours weighed 54kg but some of that weight was offset by not now having to carrying the two sets of levelling ramps at 11.5Kg and the jack at 6.5Kg, so 17Kg knocked of the E&P weight.

As Two on Tour says above i agree with both

Once you have it you will not be without it, i had it fitted to my rapido then 2 years later had it took off the rapido and had it fitted onto my carthago, its like anything some will say its worth some will say its not. But i love watching people spend half hr trying to get level and the other half shouting and waving their arms at each other ???

As long as the toilet door stays shut that’s level enough.
Bought one of these to make it easier.
Our 3 way fridge seems quite tolerant if we’re not that level.
Just use the ramps.

Was a real benefit to the French chap who got stuck in the aire we were on in France. Pressed a button up he went, I shoved stuff under his wheel, he dropped, then drove forward, repeat, then on to the road. Would have been a bugger of a job without them.

but too costly for my old bus.

You still have to arse around going up and down levelling ramps to get yours level or near level, I'm on my second cup of coffee by the time you get your ramps out, shove them under your wheel then ride up and down them a couple of time to hit your sweet spot, then of course you have the fun of packing them away muddy in the rain from time to time. :giggler:

Were you watching us at Bridlington last weekend ? ?

I really don’t mind if we’re not level. If it’s too much, we have blocks and ramps but we rarely use them. I come from a yachting background, so just a bit of tilt is nothing.

Trying to imagine you as “rail fodder” - quite agree, rarely use the ramps nowadays but simply put up with a bit of wonkiness

If you’ve got a good eye takes 30 second tops, just pick the right spot.
I’ve done the whole boat thing aswell see what I did there!

I’ll wave to you for that one I’m shore you’ll get it

Wouldn’t be without our HPC-HYDRAULICS system, only 40-45kg for the whole system, plus getting rid of our ramps and jack that weighed just under half that.

It helps my reflux if we’re pointed slightly down hill feet first

The very reason my wife made me have E&P fitted. Following a severe bout of indigestion when we were unable to level van and she slept with feet higher than head.
However with so many other benefits we wouldn’t be without them.

I spent my £5k on the E&P system just a few months ago. In the end, the only justification I could find for fitting it to an older van (I paid £33k in 2018) was the circa £1k cost to have it moved to a different van in future.
It is obviously better than levelling up the van with ramps, and has other uses as mentioned. Its really whether you can justify the spend.
Tbh, I think they are all well overpriced. At £120 garage rate per hour for 12 hours (thats about how long mine took) thats £1500 ish. So the hydraulic pump, jacks, brackets and fittings £3500. Thats a lot of money when broken down like that. On the other hand, E&P, and probably other makes, choose to offer a fixed price regardless of the van it is going on. I bet there are considerable differences in work and time between vans.
Was it worth it. Not sure yet until some significant use.

Well I love mine, what with the bike rack that lifts the bike, I have most of it ( not it all,:) ).

Love our E&P jacks too.
They are expensive but we had no intention of changing the van for quite a few years so cost per year is not too bad.
We use ours all the time, whether on a flat pitch or not, as they also stop the van rocking in wind and moving when you walk round.

Richard, did you have the Jacks fitted before the Air suspension?
I ask because with the air suspension we can get level 95% of the time and find it hard to justify the cost of fitting jacks on top of the air.
It doesn't help that we like the van rocking in the wind.

Jacks?. Most R-V`s come with them New. I had them on mine, and yes I miss them, park, press a button (literally) and go and put the kettle on or open the beer! (y) . However, I don`t think I could justify 5K or thereabouts to retrofit them.:( OH!. and on soft ground, you still need large pads to spread the load or by Sunday, you have buried them 6 to 9" deep and they refuse to come back up, because they power down, but rely on springs to bring them back up!. We once had a 12M 4 slide R-V. who`s owner would not take advice, on where best to park, buried, and it took a truck recovery firm to get him out, the site owners ( a football club) where NOT at all amused

We had the jacks first then, some time after, I had a brain fade and went bonkers with the air as well.
The two systems work well together though.
When you park and put the E&P jacks to auto the air is dumped, lowering the van, then the jacks deploy.
That means the van is very stable and the step is quite a bit lower....................very useful for us old farts. :Eeek: ::bigsmile:
