Just following up on my previous thread following the theft off our drive of our Motorhome in January I thought I would share may experience of trying to beef up security for our newly arrived replacement!

Apart from having a Growler and Non Starter Fitted by Vanbitz, who did a fantastic Job I wanted a visual deterrant as well, following on from lots of useful advice from the Forum.

I didnt want to put Bollards across the drive entrance as I know that we would soon forget or not bother to put them in place every night, and the aim was to specifically protect the MH.

I was shocked to receive Quotes of £2500 and £3000 for three retractable Bollards Supplied and Fitted.
I explained we live close to the Beach and our House sits on Sand - only about a foot below the soil you hit sand so easy to excavate - but no budging on the price.

I looked at the spec they were offering and found an equivalent - delivered for just over £90 each.
I bought a brilliant hole digger from Screwfix for £34 - I was a bit sceptical but needing about a 1 metre depth, after only 5 minutes I had gone down 1.5metres and had to fill the hole in!! What a fantastic tool - probably never use it again, so if you live near Southport you are welcome to borrow it!!

Some Post Crete and chippings and I soon had the Bollards in place - I raised the two at the rear slightly as the drive slopes and I wanted to be sure they were high enough - probably not necessary but it was best to be sure.

The one at the front was to deter it being driven forward and through the Garden Fence and wall which I have heard can happen! The Flag is so I can see it when I drive in as being vertically challenged it sits below my line of vision!

So all in all just over £300 and a bit of my time - but opposed to £3000 quite a saving!!

I have put details of the Bollard Manufacturer and a couple of pictures, just for interest.

Hope this helps anybody looking at installing Bollards - I am usually a DIY Disaster so if I can do it anyone can!!

I tried one of the hinged posts from aldi, just 4 bolts into the drive concrete, complete waste of time and money, forgot about it and reversed over it.
No damage to the van luckily but the post was cream crackered,a visual deterant it may have been but in reality totally useless.,the posters posts are more substantial.

Great job, very good visual deterrent.
If you were parked up on a C&MC site the warden would be having palpitations lol :D:D:D
