My wife and I are now on our state pensions and we both have disabilities so have decided to go the motor home route as we can drive on a good day and rest when things are not going so well.
We bought the home some years ago and could not afford a new one :(. It spent some years sitting in the garden as we were not able afford to resolve various engine problems.
That said we now have a new water pump and cam belt followed by new exhaust system and cat, which has her purring again so we hope she will see us out.
Not the most economical van with the old "Dirty Diesel" under powered 1.9 Pug turbo.
We have talked about trying our hand at driving abroad and will give it ago this year.
We do not have a clue where to start so we will rely on the forums to assist us .
So my dears we look to forward to our new life of adventures as we leave the Shires and embark on our unexpected journeys :drinks:
Wish us luck.

Go for it. Unexpected journeys are the best.

Loads on here drive abroad and they have to be locked up at night for their own safety, and the safety of the people at large.

Thank you all for your kind thoughts.
Yes we have Spain on our hit list.
Will cheat a bit as I thought we would go Portsmouth to Bilbao and then intend to drive across to Torrevieja on the Costa Blanca in the spring.
Our long term ambition is a trip down to Preveza in Greece and one day to travel into Turkey.
Might have dodge a few bullets there.?

Not a cheat at all. Saves a lot of diesel and wear and tare on vehicle.

If you search you'll find posts on getting to Greece. If you search Greece with member Don Madge you should hit gold, he was the expert, in his 80s. He did Turkey I think.

Welcome
Yes deff go to Bilbao. Last year we drove down west coast France across Pyrenees to Perpignan and then back up to Bilbao. There is a really good aires overlooking the city. We wasn't sure what Bilboa was like but I must say we were very impressed, we stayed a couple of days. This was our first European trip in our motorhome.

I'm sure you will enjoy it where ever you go.:xgrin:

Thank you,
Will spend this winter planning our escape then.
Will check out the expert advice and start the process.
Our concern is the paperwork needed to travel and also with my wife's failing health is there any type of insurance that will cover us in the event we need to cancel last min.
Any ideas about rough costs?
Thanks Hilldweller will see if i can locate Don and his advice.
