€30 or possibly even a bit less. Which on the current exchange rate is £45, so a tad expensive. Baked beans from now on. :)
And the winner is @DBK

Including tip €30

Prices certainly appear lower than in Spain

I've been out of Portugal too long, been coping with French prices for a couple of months:)

and Bev also added she didn't fancy either of them, my higher price is based on the table cloths and what I can make out of the back ground (y)

love the scenery BTW for some reason I had Portugal down as less scenic, more rugged and then coastline :)
Northern Spain has been a real eye opener - and worthy of a trip of its own.
Just being in the sunshine makes you feel good. And after the summer that we've had at home, it's very welcome

We woke to another beautiful morning and having served Mrs C tea in bed at exactly 8:00am, we left Geres National Park, heading alongside the Rio Caldo.

image.jpeg

After about an hour we arrived at Bom Jesus (Good Jesus on The Mount) which is a hilltop pilgrimage site. (Campercontact 12252)
I don't 'do' religion, but I was tempted by the prospect of climbing the reputed 1000 steps of Baroque stairway that rises over 300 ft to the summit.

image.jpeg

image.jpeg

At the summit was an impressive looking church and an even more impressive (large) gift shop, selling every kind of religious trinket imaginable. They were doing a brisk trade.

We found ourselves a shady spot in one of the cafes and enjoyed an espresso coffee and little custard tart, while we watched the world go by.

For the Gastronauts

We heded back down in search of lunch and discovered an oasis of culinary treasures at El Portico restaurant.

After an appetiser of fluffy fish croquette

image.jpeg

We eagerly awaited the speciality of the house - roast kid goat, cooked with potatoes and garlic.

image.jpeg

It was accompanied by a side dish of rice, cooked in rich stock

image.jpeg

And cabbage, mixed with carrots

image.jpeg

The meal was accompanied by a large jug on the fruity local red wine and a basket of home made bread.

image.jpeg

For desert I chose cooked milk (like Creme Brûlée)

image.jpeg

Mrs C chose a plate of seasonal fruit (melon)

A wonderful meal is a beautiful location.

Can you guess the bill?

Since May 05 (Ex Tuggers).
I have no experience of Portuguese prices at all Robert, but I'll hazard a guess at €28. ;)

Cheers,

Jock. :)

not long enough
Mixed messages on the table linen front, looks like it might be trying to impress, but not quite doing it, based on yesterday's massive miss, I am aiming lower, going for 40 euro, Bev isn't here but always goes lower than me on everything except female attire, so on my say so she will have a 34 euro, but I will check with her when she gets in :)

My other confusion is that you have done some sneaky shares in the past, not sure if you both had the same main, or it was large enough to share, it looks like it would be huge for one

I know it doesn't really matter who is nearest, but yes it does :LOL:

BTW are they goat ribs? looks like meat on the bone of some kind

edit I hadn't seen Phil's post above before submitting my prices

Woohoo!

Can I just say that I love your threads, Robert. When we finally get to touring Europe, trying the local food is one of our main reasons for going.

Wish I understood Portugese. looks like you got a bargain

I now presume the appetiser was a 'red herring' and was FOC

Then you had water

What I presume was a 2 person main course @ 25euros

then 2 x vegetables maybe??

jug of wine

melon dessert

no sign of your milk pudding?

We will need full adjudication by Friday
