Sea Kayak in a bag? (1 Viewer)

I am reliably informed that there is a full size sea Kayak inside this bag

So let’s have a look,

Well plenty of bits, let’s hope there are none left over at the end,

I have marked it all up so a bit easier next time,

You build the frame back and front sections and then push them inside the skin, the main side ribs push over centre to tighten it up,

The seat fits in and then inflates for comfort,

When it’s all together there are two inflatable sponsons that really tighten everything up and protect the skin from and hard point that might rub on rocks,

You can see the ribs sections and the inflated side sponsons,

Just add water, oh and I need a paddle,

Taking it apart is much quicker,

Back in the bag,

There are footrests that I didn’t fit this time and also a “sea sock” that keeps the inside clean and dry,

Must find chance to get out in it, I will give you a shout @andy63

Oh it’s a Nortik navigator BTW.

Nice bit of kit, back in the late 60's we had one made of canvas and the frames was a bit like drain rods. Bob.

I think they say 45 minutes but I reckon you could do it in 30, today was the first time on my own as the place we got it from showed us the basics when we picked it up.

Most of my time is taken up in ireland atm..

I am getting a wee break atm mind..
Currently in scotland doing guess what
Had a few days paddling around torridon and applecross and finishing off with a few days on mull before heading back to ireland..
The plan was to head for staffa today and have a look at fingles cave..and although the sea conditions were perfect the fog set in, so we settled for a coastal jaunt today...
Rewarded with the company of a pod of bottlenose dolphins for about half an hour...
Trouble is they wouldnt pose for photographs
Hopefully catch you at millport anyway and see your new toy...

This one https://www.trakkayaks.com/pages/meet-the-trak-2-0 is a neat bit of kit and we actually went to Germany to see one in a dealer, it turned out to be the older Trak 1 and they said they were getting the Trak 2 in early this year but I think they have production problems and delivery is slow, apart from that we found a UK dealer and he sells both the Trak and the Nortik and reckons although the Nortik takes a bit more putting together it is worth it for a better paddling experience.

Flat calm, we are doing the same in Birmingham as you are doing in Ireland I think, looking forward to catching up sometime.

Don't know about bag's Andy as it has a "sea sock" basically goes over the cockpit rim before the spray deck and you sit inside it so keeps the water out of the Kayak and also keeps it clean so you don't get sand rubbing between the frame and the skin, not put that bit in yet.

Its standard sea kayak cockpit but you can give it a go.

To be fair its just the same idea but the materials have come on a bit, the inflatable sponson makes a big difference you can hear it go tight as soon as you put air in it.

They are making some great inflatable boats and SUP boards with that same material, the panels are stabilised with threads inside the air chamber so they can inflate to much higher pressures and get good shape and rigidity.

This was an interesting bit of kit, that we saw on a Tandem rally in the Czech republic,

You could paddle it or if the stuck the flipper things through the hatch in the floor you could peddle it if you hadn't had enough pedalling being out on the tandem all day.

My last kayak was a proper sit-on (Wilderness System's "Ride" - the original not the new version) and that had a hole through the balloon for draining the cockpit. I loved that boat and regret selling it for the day boat even though it was too heavy for me to lift by myself.

@funflair I'd love to look at your new boat - just a look and I'll see if I would fit - generally it's the shape of the keyhole that is the problem as my hips are really wide - well padded front and back but the sides really are solid bone........ my pelvis is like it has been run over by a truck.

there are sit-ons and sit-ons ...... my old Ride was fabulous, stable as a pontoon but would shift through the water when required. It had a payload of 200kg (maybe a bit more). The new sit-on is okay, nothing wrong with it, just slow and not as stable and limited payload. I was spoilt

Think they've tidied up the definitions and that's now a waveski, surf skis are like sit on top K1s - with a venturi drain in the footwell, 6m ish long and 45cm wide or so. Still a pig to paddle but for different reasons.

Having sent the Kayacats back (long story but basically a great idea but massive manufacturing issues) we are now looking round for "kayaks in a bag". I really need to try before I buy and there is now so much choice although very few dealers appear to stock more than one brand. It could be a long quest.
