2014 Fiat Ducato - 5000 miles
Makes a high pitch screaming noise when starting from cold, having been left to stand for a while. Stops after a moment
Sounds a bit like slipping fan belt or similar
Any ideas?

Getting better
Check the tension of the auxiliary belts and look for signs of slippage, also check alternator for secure fitting any movement can be a problem

Almost certainly the belt slipping as the alternator is trying to push a lot of charge back into the battery at low revs. Does it stop straight away if you take the revs up to about 1200?

I think they have an automatic tensioner on them, so I'm not sure there is a lot you can do apart from holding it at a slightly brisk tickover for about 20 seconds.

The more sophisticated 12V management systems wait a minute before also trying to charge the habitation batteries, but unless yours does that, that's a big demand all at once & at low speed - big torque demand.

I had the same problem. Turned out to be a slipping air con belt on my 2008 Ducato 2.3. What annoyed me was that it was the same belt that the Fiat garage had just fitted because they said the old one was frayed. Turns out Fiat had send them a belt that was slightly too big. Lots of apologies and a new correct sized belt later the screeching stopped.
