Hi all my 2002 Hymer B544 is likely to be written off by the insurance company. My question is would it be financially worth me buying it back and selling it as is?

Thanks for the reply, was thinking of selling on as is. It is repairable its the front end that's damaged. My thoughts were I often see posts of people looking for bits n pieces. I can't store it anywhere other than the storage place and not sure they would appreciate me breaking it down there 🤣
There are rules about write offs being resold.
It depends what class the insurers have put it in.
If it's a financial write off then it should be ok to repair and/or resell.
A few other classes......
Some can be broken for spare parts, others must be destroyed as a whole unit.

That depends on whether you want to spend the time and effort breaking it and do you have the space?
not sure what the market is for the bits.

All depends on price, is it bodywork that needs repairing?

Had the same situation back in 2018

Uneconomical to repair so total write off.
Plastic skirts o/s

Axxa ins via Lifesure

Offer was good, bought in France gdp of the day was good.

I let them take it. Valuers told me to take off all non std items ie solar etc so I did.

Ended up at Westbury salvage auctions on the third attempt it sold for peanuts followed it online.
was I tempted to buy it back..... No

Instead kitted out new van with Aux parts salvaged

By the time you have paid storage charges it’s probably not worth doing however if you had a yard you could break it down for spares and make a few bob I expect 🤔

My SL500 was insured with Admiral when it was written off. They wouldn't let me buy it back and they paid out within 48 hours of notification!

You really need somewhere free and accessible to store it
I did this with a boat once that I broke beyond easy repair and got more for the parts as a complete boat. There were a lot of parts that were specialist to the class and were ether very expensive or no longer available new.
However it took about a year and a half to sell all the parts and I had the damaged hull to get rid of when done.

Unless you are likely to want to use the parts to make your own camper then I can't see that it would be financially viable and even if it was the amount of hassle would probably negate any benefit.

Hi think you are right, going to take off the extras that I have put on gaslow, solar, alarm stereo etc. Then let them take it away and keep an eye out for our next one. Only managed 2 trips!!
