Where in Scotland do you plan in going? And when?

Exactly the right question, Scotland is a big country with two distinct sides as well as north & south.

Are you asking which way to travel through England or where to go once you get towards Scotland?

You'll enjoy Scotland, but as has been said already it would help if we knew where you are heading for, East, West, just the borders...….

Markey717 Scotland is not a lot "different" to many other places as you head north - until of course you get to the Highlands and I suspect that you are thinking about the mountains etc. And that's a long long way from Ashford, even with 3 weeks. Now don't get me wrong, almost everywhere we've been in Scotland we've enjoyed a great deal but the scenery does vary tremendously from area to area, which is why so many are asking where are you headed for. On the way, too, there are plenty of areas with their own attractions.

Really think you're going to need to be a bit more specific about what you're looking for so we can offer better advice.

You’ve either got M6/M74 or M1/A1 to get north.
If you’d like to spend some time in Dumfries and Galloway do the first, for Edinburgh the second.
The Highlands start north of Glasgow... heading up the west coast is pretty. So via Loch Lomond then head for Fort William. You might decide to take a ferry to one of the islands - Mull and Skye are popular. Or you could head further north where the scenery opens out again.
Best advice take a map book and google images of places around Scotland to see what you like.

Thank you all for your thoughts especially Grianan??

Give Dumfries & Galloway a try, just head up the M6 & turn left immediately as you go over the border, then meander up towards Ayrshire, ferry from Ardrossan & over to the isle of Arran (ferry is quite cheap) which is known as Scotland in miniature, you can hop off the island at Lochranza & the highlands are staring you straight in the face.

The midges haven't been too bad this year & they're just about out of season anyway now.

Whatever you decide to do have a great time.

From all of the answers about Scotland, I think I must have misunderstood your original question. I thought you were asking for a scenic route that would get you from Kent ‘up to Scotland’, not a scenic route around Scotland ...... and as an old Scottish friend of mine has on a popular social media site, a picture of the Scottish border welcome sign, with one of his own underneath...... “Apologies for all the sh*#e you had to drive through to get here” ! ?
