Which is the best way to do Scotlands route 500 clock wise or aunty clock wise

Also would say anti clockwise , best to keep the coast on your left.

Worth noting that the West Coast section from Lochcarron up to Durness will take you much longer to drive than the Durness back to Inverness via J.O.G section. Mainly because it's the most beautiful part, but also because of the roads.

We did clockwise and glad we did as it seemed most people were going the other way - either way it's a great drive and stunning scenery (y)

Have you considered the Scotland route 300? It’s shorter and closer if you’re coming from the south.

We did the NC500 last autumn, went up the east coast back down the west coast, keeping the coastline on your right. We found a really nice pub with its own small site next door (Halladale Inn at Melvich) ideal for freshening up and somewhere to dump the waste. it was about 100 mile from our previous nights stop at Helmsdale Harbour, where you can park of the harbour front for a small donation to the RNLI. Although not strictly part of the NC500 we did what most do and drove the 20miles and went up to John o Groats.
