Hi, has anyone any advise on going to Scotland between Xams and the new year.
We have a van able to do the trip an are looking at heading to Oman first then popping onto Skye and up the west coast, will everything be closed up?

Any info greatly appreciated.

Scotland between Xmas and New Year can be a little ‘laid back’ with some business’s closed for the duration in our experience. Basic services should be available though.
This year things will definitely be wound down from the mid afternoon Saturday (apart from the bars!) and usually closed Sunday/Monday. There are always exceptions of course but you’ve more chance of finding these in the big cities.
Enjoy whatever you choose to do👍.

Since 1964 Gosh that makes me feel old.
Why aim for the north of Scotland?

What I mean is that you'll find very little in the way of services between Xmas & new year. The weather has been pretty cold with lots of snow, very pretty, but it can be pretty awful to drive.
I'd try south west Scotland, Dumfries & Galloway lacks the majesty of the highlands, but it ain't half bad, lots of hills & lochs, plenty of eateries, easy parking & a very large selection of shops.

I've popped a pic of loch Doon in the beautiful winters weather at the end of this posting.

Whatever you do, please take note that Scotland enjoys new year more than the damp squib which is Xmas, so shops will close on new years eve, some will stay closed for 2 days.

Wrap up warm & have a great trip..Robert.

The town of Biggar is lovely for a few days, the campsite is open all through the festive season. Loads of walks and some lovely pubs and shops.
Most of Scotland will be open from Boxing Day or the 27th, our local shops open for a few hours on Boxing Day.

Village idiot
Oban is an all year round place mate. Everything open and a nice trip up to sky and you will think you have the place to yourself. I live just 10 miles from Oban .during the winter if the weather is nice for a few days we jump in the van and on the ferry for a few days on the islands. Mull is my fave. As long as your prepared for some cold and the odd shower 😉 you will enjoy it
