Since 2017. Before had caravan, folding camper and various tents.
We are thinking of going to Scotland for a week or two, end of October beginning of November. Is this a daft idea?

There is a couple on YouTube working their way up the west coast. The weather looks like it’s been mixed but generally enjoyable.

You’ll love it. Sure it will be a little colder, perhaps wetter but it will be quiet and has been mentioned no midges.

We're planning on doing the same at the beginning of November, current plan is the Cairngorms then the west coast, probably around Ullapool. Expectations are low regarding the weather, if we get a good day that will be a bonus, looking for some good winter walks.
Hope you have a good trip.

West coast tends to be wetter but milder, while the East is colder but drier. Central Highlands can attract snowfalls usually on the tops at first then decending as winter progresses. Be prepared for the cold and wet and you'll be fine and be aware that some campsites close from end of October.

Hope you have a great trip. (y)

We have had some amazing trips at this time of the year, this was quite extreme, but a great trip 😳👍

On one of your trips you were good enough to call in here :)

We've had our drive and parking redone so you would be able to park up here with no access problems now :)

I went to Applecross (from Derby) on the bike for an October weekend. Had great, if cold, weather.

We love Assynt (Clachtol). Only been in Summer though.

The walk up Suilvan is one of my favourite walks.

We have a house in Wester Ross so travel up whenever we can - October and January can both have beautiful days. Just go prepared for the weather and have low level beach and woodland walks planned if it’s wet. The scenery is breathtaking whatever the weather.

Don't dismiss the south west area, it's a bit warmer and very much ignored by many who tend to scoot right by it.

Any places in particular?

OMG.. You want to come to Scotland in November?? Coarse it's a daft idea. Why would you come here and not go to Kent or Cornwall.
Pappy Only jesting but I really really don't believe you had to ask. 😎😎😎😎

Just be prepared to put the heating on and a hat and gloves outside. I love going away in winter. Planning a trip to the Lakes for my December birthday. Perfect. Loads fewer people about and if there's a dusting of snow it can transform landscapes that I love and are otherwise so familiar to me.

Hmmmm lovely...but not relevant... the Lakes ain't Scotland which is what OP was asking.

Relevant because the point about crowds and landscapes in Scotland, as in the Lakes, will be the same thus improving the experience in both places. But thanks for your review of my reply. 😊

If you're going up the west coast, try and have a stop off here. It's off the beaten track, but has a great on-site shop (it's the village store) and they own the pub across the road which serves great food, although it may be a reduced menu now. It's north of Ullapool and then off to the west. I've stayed there twice before and loved it. Mobile reception is poor (02 and Three), but sometimes that's a good thing. Enjoy your trip!!
