We’re collecting our new Cathargo C-Tourer next week (having to ‘downweight’ from our Hymer). Can anyone help us find half way reasonable insurance. We’ve been quoted £950 and that’s if we get a tracker fitted. It has an A type alarm. Crikey!

2gether insurance. I've used for ages but never had to make a claim so I don't know what they're like in that dept.

I found Saga nearly half the price of Comfort and without a tracker. Guaranteed price for 3 years.

We are with Comfort, for our Carthago yes they will need a cat 1 alarm & will give further discount for an active tracker, last premium fully comp was £268 for reduced mileage of 6K.(normally 10K)
There is a new kid on the block though, it was mentioned last week on another thread, Minxy Girl knows what I am talking about, was going to give them a try next year.
Good Luck.

We have used Comfort - half the price of CMC which we used to use for caravan.

If it is a new Carthago that £950 is probably about 1% of the value and insurers can be jumpy about the more expensive risks.

My insurers give a discounts for S5 trackers but nothing for an alarm. Clearly they think a monitored tracker achieves better security than an alarm.

This is the thread about insurance ... comparison with Asda Money and it came up with Lifesure which is a lot cheaper than others:

If you need a tracker for insurance purposes then I can recommend this one:

Thanks everyone. Adrian Flux came out best on comparison site but have to get tracker fitted and £500 excessCaravan Guard seemed to want our souls.

I use AIB, who are particularly competitive when getting cover for a modified vehicle, and when I renewed this week I told them I was a member of MotorhomeFun and they instantly knocked £25 off my premium !

WE are with Comfort for our fourth year and for the fourth year they are actually cheaper than LAST year
would be cheaper but our alarm/tracker /system isn't Thatcham as it uses a mobile phone to communicate with it not a silly key fob that thieving scroats can read

Although they accept the tracker part as it's monitored 24/7

I have used Lifesure ins broker for a van conversion and also in Sept last year for breakdown ins when the CMC woiuld not insure for traveling through countries that were on the blacklist. Very good price for both insurances try them

I often sit back and take a view of these things.

If someone was to offer me £1000 and in return I promised to buy them a new £95,000 motorhome if it got stolen, destroyed by fire or written off in an accident.

What would you think my answer would be?

Yes true but if a hundred people asked you and statisicaly only one was likely to claim youve just made 5k if no one claims you quids in

That’s not a bad price, we won’t be taking delivery of our new 140k Niesmann till the end of the year but I’ve been quoted £1300 if it were now, when our £120k carthago was new 3 years ago I payed around £900 but that’s now dropped to around £450. You have to remember you pay 50 k for a car then you’ll pay around £500 insurance so it’s all relative, as soon as you go over the 100k there is only a limited number of insurers that will cover you.

I just got insurance for my new van. I was told by Adrian Flux that they took the tracker into consideration, over and above any alarm system.

Anyway, I ended up going with Comfort, a good price and they were very nice to deal with. Some brokers rattled off the details so fast I couldn't take it all in, but Steve at Comfort was very helpful!
