With fuel bills heading where they are, for some it might work out cheaper to put their heating on a frost setting, get in the van and head off and find a bit of sun.
Though as me and Siân were discussing yesterday, this wouldn't work for us, as those kids we leave at home, without us here chasing them, would never bother to turn lights or heating off! The tumble dryer would be used on sunny windy days, and the diswasher would do a full cycle for one cereal bowl and spoon.

Evict the kids before you leave… 🤷‍♂️

We have a grand child living with us who is nocturnal.
So used all power and lights all night. Goes to bed at 6am up at 4pm.
When we we are away leaves everything switched on doesn’t clear up so after 4 or 5 weeks away I am under pressure to return home to ensure “ damage limitation “ 🙄🙄
we have tried hard to break their habit but so far even threats haven’t produced a change in habits.

You forgot a few, like a full kettle boiled for one cup of tea, a vat of HOT water to wash their car with!! And I thought it was just ours so glad, well reassured to hear it's universal.
Mike.

Simple answer is eviction! They need to understand the real world and you are not doing them any favours being so lenient,
customers of mine waited for their two adult children to go on summer holiday and promptly put their house up for sale.

When the children/adults came back they were totally upset to be told that they needed to find somewhere else to live, but in the long run hard love will make them stand on their own 2 feet in my opinion.

The suppliers have the trump card, if you don't use it they just increase the standing charge. Mine is just 27p a day for gas only but this is about to change increasing by some 80%. So don't think that leaving an empty house will mean zero charges. It wont......

Agreed. You could turn it around, send them away and .......take back control.....😁

The joys of living on your own….🤔

The £400 government payment will pay for 3/4 of my yearly bill….😎
If you were really clever. You’d have tied yourself into a 2 year deal last October that alone will literally save us thousands. We also get £400 towards it.
Hopefully prices will drop back down before next October

You normally think outside of the box Jim. Have you now put the bills into the children's names yet? :) You could then not bother to turn thelights or heating off! Use the tumble dryer on sunny windy days, and use the diswasher would do a full cycle for one cereal bowl and spoon. You could even send your washing home on pay on arrival delivery :)

Doesnt matter to me, whether its my beloved or the kids.
She hasnt heard of a washing line, no matter what the weather the hot thingy is spinning constantly.
We put our clothes in the shrinking basket, then they go through the wash and straight into the shrinking machine to dry.

The only plus point is I can grind an axe or shapren my knives on my leccy meter wheel any time I like .. ::bigsmile:
