Hi , Am thinking of going to Saumur in the Loire valley for a couple of days in September . Can anyone recommend a good site within easy cylcling range of Saumur , pedal cycles not electric .

The Flower Camping site (Ile d’Offard) on the island in the Loire at Saumur itself is pretty good.

Agreed, I remember it as expensive but a good position on an island in the river

Thanks Klaatu , wasn't to sure as have read some poor reports on condition of site grounds , was thinking of staying there for a few days to see castle and the cadre noir .

I think the grass was a bit sparse on pitches and lumpy ground but that seems common on french sites. For what they charge I expect a bowling green standard !
Still worth it

I agree , but the boss wants to see the men in horses so no doubt I will have to put up with a bit of lumpy ground . At least the wine will be good .

Cheers Klaatu am in the process of buying the acsi kit at the moment as a pal told me it was well worth it .

There's a very nice aire east of Sumaur at Dampeirre-Sur-Loire, an ex campsite, about 8 euros a night, and a good ride into town along the river.

No EHU but all other services..

the site on the island is in a great position and we were lucky to have a pitch looking across the river towards the castle.
not sure if the season started with grass on the pitch but by the time we got there it had all gone.

The site in the Island is very good, somistge aire right next to it. We were there 3 times last year, one of our favourite towns. There is a very good Morrocan restaurant about 500m away, well worth going to if that is your bag. Plenty of good restaurants in the town too.
