Hi all. I'm new to owning a motorhome and the one I bought did not come with a TV. It has a maxview cube satellite. If I got avtex tv with built in decoder would I be able to watch free satellite or would I need anything else

Hello and welcome,
with a sat dish pointing the correct way you can indeed watch free sat ( or programs any of the other satellites beaming this way )

We have a roof mounted dish and Avtex tv with built in satellite tuner which enables us to watch free to air satellite tv.
(we also have a cheap small Manhattan Freesat receiver for no other other reason than the better EPG)

Cheers so I do need an avtex tv with built in decoder then

we used a portable TV with 12v sky box for free sat for years . now we use the avtex with built in sat tuner.

but many portable TV's have built in sta tner these days.

Put simply, you need something to decode the signal from your dish, whether that be a standalone decoder, such as a sky box or other type of decoder OR a TV with an in built decoder.

Cheers think I will get a built in one on tv to save space.

Yeah just looking at one of these on amazon deffo cheaper

You could look at Sniper tv's as well 12/240 volt, built in dvd, satellite tuner and full hd (1080p)

Your first step then is to decide what size will fit where you want to watch it, on all our motorhomes we have actually added additional aerial/sat outlets in locations where we want to watch TV from, so don't feel tied to where the outlets actually are at the moment.
After that it's time to decide what you actually want to watch. DVD's? UK programming (in and out of the UK ), internet TV/catch up etc and then how you intend to 'obtain' the correct signal to allow you watch what you want to watch. That might be a sat dish (be mindful of where you can and can't get a sat signal when touring out of the UK ) an internet set up with MIFI/dongle/router and external or internal antenna or simply a digital TV aerial for watching terrestrial TV in the UK. You may even want all those options. For sat TV you may want a TV with built in sat tuner or a standalone tuner/decoder (such as a sky box). For internet TV you might want a smart TV or a standard TV with an Amazon firestick or similar.

So my suggestion is work out what you want to do, where you want to do it and how you can do it BEFORE you buy a TV !!

Excellent advice.
I will first clarify what the aerial on the roof is able to receive.
Then work out what we want to watch (deffo not DVDs) and take it from there.
