I have a Pioneer head unit and had the motorhome sat nav module added. My problem is the spoken directions are too quiet whilst driving at any speed.

In the nav settings the volume is at full.

Anybody any ideas?

I know this sounds odd but here goes
We had the same problem on a previous satnav. The normal volume control only turned up the volume on the radio. We had to “catch” the moment that the satnav was speaking and quickly turn up the volume .... had to be when the satnav was speaking.

Drive more slowly?

Seems a strange problem that a SatNav requires you to take your attention away from the road so that you can turn up the volume at the exact moment it speaks.

Built in units look great but seem to be less practical than portable ones.

Thanks.
I know that in some cars this can be done. I tried it when i was selecting the voice and the radio/CD volume didn't work./ source off

Thanks du162

I know where the volume is, i have it on full. It sounds fine when stationary. My problem is it is not loud enough when driving.

I know that for different 'sources' eg. IPod, aux and bluetooth you can adjust the volume from the norm, but it won't interact between the unit volume and the sat nav??

My Kenwood multi unit is the same, the volume is not the same as radio. But sat nav has packed up so will be replaced when we get back to Uk but will keep the kenwood unit for the radio,cd and dvd.

If the rest of it is working is it just the gps aerial that's come undone at the back (or faulty)?

The Becker in the Mercedes has to be turned up, or down, whilst it is speaking, and you can do it when parked so no need to be a danger on the road.

@Bobby22's problem could be that the Pioneer unit was really designed for installation in a modern car, not MH cab.

By contrast, the standalone Garmin 760 Camper built in speaker is so loud that I had to turn the volume down. The sound insulation seems quite effective in the X290.

Thanks @SpeedyDux

The Pioneer head unit and the AVIC-F160-2 ( for trucks and campers) are meant for each other.

I will try the suggestions of turning up the volume whilst directions are being given......but i don't think it will work. I will try on the driveway to have it speak.

That's the way our in car sat nav volume works.
Fingers crossed.

Hymer
The Zenec unit fitted by Hymer also adjusts the sat nav volume when the sat nav voice is speaking, took us ages to work it out.

I will have to wait until my next trip out as i cannot the woman to speak, when parked up.
To recap.
I have set the volume to full in the sat nav settings.
I know that the volume can be overridden in the source menu, but i cannot get to the head unit settings when my source is the sat nav........if that makes sense.
Probably once i get used to the graphics i will not need volume but, until then, its annoying.

Edit..... I'm just off the phone to Pioneer tech. services and it appears that the Funsters got it sussed. Turn up the volume as it gives directions...... away to get the van out to try it.

Thankyou Funsters.......i will report back.

Oh bug**r!
Do you have to be in sat nav to set the "master" volume? Think our Chinese Android has a master volume and individual volumes for each function but our sat nav function is integrated so may be different for you?
Or, are you sure you've not just picked a sexy, sultry, whisper voice from a wee bit of stuff?:whistle::whistle:

The unit can adjust volumes for each source, set to + or - of the radio FM. I can open up the Navi source but i cannot then access the master settings as i can for iPod or aux sources.

@du162 Having read your post and having a tinker......the elongated O you talk about on mine is blue.
Having said that i tapped it and it took me to a whole different menu, at the bottom of all these icons was a sliding volume scale, which is a different one from the navi settings........i slid it along to the right and " voila" sorted.

Sorted.......Sorted......Sorted :cheers::drink::party2:

Thanks again peeps.

du, i had googled, oogled and you tubed until i couldn't think what else to do. I looked up ebay to see who was selling them and i called the companies. They gave me the Pioneer services phone number and the engineer i phoned gave me a bum steer.

Your post eventually got me sorted thanks.

I'll check out the you tube channel
