Morning all I have decided that instead of replacing Garmin I will buy a really good system for my phone. So my question is which is the best for Europe please. Barrie

We've used Co-pilot, about £30 for western europe, and found it excellent. You don't need a data connection unless you want Live Traffic as all the maps are downloaded to your phone. If you've got something like a Galaxy Note you can also have it on that too. Back up your phone to the cloud and your poi's, routes etc can be downloaded to your Note by Restoring.

Hi before you pay for anything (thinking with me Yorkshire flat cap on) try Nav Free you can try it now fer nowt it works on windows, android, Apple, downloads maps to device so no need for Internet/data connection. Covers Europe as well many other countries, can add poi's

Google it, it's great as a back up if now't else and it's free.

Is Todmorden back in Yorkshire then? It was Lancashire when I worked there...
Does all this moving back and forth across the border make you a Pink Rose supporter???

Apologies Midday for high jacking your thread but I have to reply to CWH.
Todmorden boundary was originally marked by the river Calder which runs through the centre of the town and under the town hall placing half the town in Lancashire and half in Yorkshire.

Cumth't barndry act of 1888 thole err Tod were placed inth Yorkshire county.

What trade were you plying when you last worked here? Wheelwright? LOL

Then I suppose it was those of us who lived in the REAL West Riding that never accepted the Other Half of Todmorden folk as anything other than incomers - it was less than 150 years ago, after all!!!
Seriously though, I worked in Tod College & I was sure I was paid by Lancs... I did have to cross the Calder walking into work.
I have 2 good excuses for being dim - senior moments & blonde moments!

1. Be aware of possible data roaming charges
2. Waze is free & excellent
3. As above do a search - but for Waze - and you'll see it has several recommendations (but so do all the others :D).

I use Nokia and have used the free Drive app. It works well for a car but is not as good as a truck type satnav for a MH as you can't put in your dimensions. If set to fastest or shortest route it does favour small back roads. I haven't tried the 'balanced' option.

I leave mine on balanced all the time, but sometimes if you opt for no motorways it does have a hissy fit,and says it can't find a route, but if you leave motorways in but opt for the no tolls option it works brilliant , it will get you on motorways but gets you off again before peages without fail

Another thing I have found with it is the speed it reroutes , it's almost immediate , never says it is doing but starts a new route straight away if you turn off

iphone does get very hot with prolonged use navigating and can shut down.

Mine did when it was in sun through the screen, shut down right in the middle of La Rochelle.

Fixed it in the shade and no bother any more.

I use co-pilot too Dave and I have to say it's excellent. It is about 20 pound depending on what maps you get. Ive used mine in Chech republic, Holland, Belgium, France, Germany Luxembourg the USA Canada and of course the UK. It DOES NOT use data as the maps are pre-installed. The imagary i find excellent and easy to follow. Make sure you have the correct phone though, Im using mine via the s5 and have used it via Ipad and s3 too.

I've just gone over to CoPilot after researching loads of sat navs and finding that all of the 'truck' versions had such dreadful reviews.

Ignoring the cheapo Chinese sat navs (even though some rave about them) I found that I could buy an iPad Mini and CoPilot software for less than the price of some SatNav's!

You can download POI's on CoPilot onto Android phone very easy to do. I've used Garmin, NavFree, TomTom and a few others but now much prefer CoPilot.

Definitely Co-Pilot Live. All maps live on't phone.
Waze is good also.
Nav Free was invaluable in India.
