I'm a newbie
Ive had a sat Nav in my car for near on 20 years now and most of the time its been pretty good,

I use a TOM Tom stand alone device, I have done for years and only a coupe of times I have come unstuck, I usd it mostly in a xar but occasionally in a Renault Traffic van when it tried to send me through a very low bridge

now for my question

is there a specific sat nav option for larger vehicles? so when following it, it doesn't try and send you down unsuitable routes

I've looked at the GPS Thread but nothing there seems nothing obvious

well there is loads of conflicting advice here, thanks to all.

I am used to using a satnav in my car and I understand thats its only a guide, I have ignored its commands on many occasions.

And as I'm not entirely sure what sat nav our new van has fitted I will wait and see what ive got before I make judgement but I like the sound of the Garmin 770

More than toes wet now!
Our Garmin 760 (superceded by the 770 and then the 780) warns of "inappropriate" road or similar.

Any 770 experts on here. Put these co-ords in and this is what I get even when I zoom in

I have tried many different SatNavs.
At some stage or other, all have tried to take me where I'm unable or not allowed to go.

There are two parts to a SatNav system: The user interface, and the data.
Many use Here data which confuses me a little when some are supplied free whilst others charge a subscription. Sadly, I consider Here data to be woefully inaccurate. It's nice to know the local speed limit, for example, but they do not keep them up to date.
User interfaces are a personal thing. For me an unambiguous spoken word is more important than what the display looks like and I've not come across anything that's always been clear to me.

If only they could say something like "take the third turning on the left by the Red Lion pub", recognise traffic lights and avoid speed calming...

Broken most bits now
I updated my iPad/copilot a couple of weeks ago and it does seem to have much improved routing. The interface has never been a problem and is the best of the many sat have I have used so I'm actually using it properly now. Speed limits in Italy are random at the best of times and copilot is often wrong but otherwise it's OK.

I still use copilot and its OKish but also use an Xgody which seems better, and much cheaper. Lost faith in Tomtom as even updating maps several times a year they are still years out of date with new roads.

Busman they are 2 different sets of coordinates so you would expect them to end at 2 different places. Having looked at both sets on google maps they are both at the same campsite, one is the entrance to the site and the other (the satnav screen) is a point in the middle if the site.

You could say that the sat nav is showing you final stopping place more accurately. :giggle:

If you use coordinates for a place of interest, make sure they are for the entrance rather than the centre.

I have been taken to outside a back fence when I've used some coordinates and itā€™s not much good if you cannot get in from there.
