hi can some one tell me the wire connection for the polarity light i can see one end go to earth but the other end has come out of the switch.

Maybe a call to Sargent on Monday. ? Can't see that many people would have opened up their units and know the connections. 👍

On an old motorhome consumer unit, not a Sargent brand, I remember the reverse polarity indicator was wired between earth and neutral, so it would light up if the neutral wire was connected to live. If the 'polarity' is correct, earth and neutral are pretty near the same voltage, so the indicator would not light up.

hi thanks. this is what i was thinking, but will ring sargent in the morning to confirm.

A photo may help

Just found this on Sargent's site confirming what autorouter said.

A. The reverse polarity light is designed to illuminate when the Live and Neutral Supply has been reversed or if the Neutral or Earth supply is missing\under fault condition.
The Neon warning indicator is connected between the Earth and Neutral output so will illuminate if either Neutral\Earth cable has a short to Live, Or where the Neutral is missing causing the current to flow down to Earth. A missing Earth can also cause this if a fault exists shorting Live to Earth.
If the light illuminates the supply to the vehicle\PSU should be investigated. Check for 230V from Live to Neutral and also Live to Earth, Confirm 0V across Neutral and Earth.
Reverse Polarity can be common in Europe (France etc). Where an earth point is not used and Live\Neutral polarity is not observed.
It can also be normal for this LED to be illuminated when using a generator due to the way some types of generators operate with a centre tapped earth.

update
rang sargent this morning, after waiting 20 minute to get through . the answer i got was i cant tell you that information you are working on the mains.
after i had ****%%%^^ choice words with him i managed to comfirm that one end of the polarity light cable goes to the neutral on the incoming mains cable the other goes to the earth bar. the wire that had come out was just solder on the end so i put a ferrel on the end to give it a bit more strenth and put it back in the rdc with the neutral wire. so we are good to go. see you all at peterbourgh.

I have just fitted a new rocker switch to the PSU 2007 as the other was faulty , there is no power where my motor home is stored so I connected it up to my Generator . The polarity reverse light was lit up . I had a hunch that it could be the generator . The above information has hopefully confirmed my suspicions but I still won't be happy until I plug it into the mains ,,With thanks Paul Miller

I think you will find it is to do with the way the Genny works and nothing to worry about.

If you do have reversed polarity, the warning light is telling you that. It does not affect the charger operation. However if you were to use 240v appliances, there's the possibility of electric shock from faulty equipment.
