hi just got 2003 autotrail is it normal that the 12 volt does not work when engine is running .

Yes this is normal for all British built vans, the habitation 12v shuts down when the engine is started, the only thing that should work on 12v when running is the fridge (Which should only work on 12v with the engine running and gas or 230v at other times)

Your electric step should retract when the engine turns on too although I try as a rule to put it away first, just in case
