We are thinking of going here from Sicily.
Had anyone done this and any thoughts on it? Back over to Livogno or Genoa after to save us retracing our route back through Italy.
Much appreciated.

@SMB @JJ gave me some excellent info on Sardina was going to go in the van got as far as Venice looking to go this year
Went on a packaged holiday there last year to check it out, fabulous place stayed in the Isola Rossa region where there was a few Motorhomes parked near the beach hired a car and found loads of places to wild camp and plenty of campsite
Well worth the effort, lovely place and would be great to go in the van

Thanks.
Island hopping here doesnt seem to be something funsters do which bothers me a bit as theres probably a good reason. Ferry prices balance quite well with cost of driving back through Italy though so i dont know why really unless people who have done it havent see this thread

We loved Sardinia. There are a lot of ferry choices although some are seasonal.

This site shows a lot of choices - although some are seasonal (look for the column that says 1-12) and some will doubtless have ceased trading.

We travelled from Civitavecchia near Rome because thats where we were, but I think there are ferries from Naples area as well and there does seem to be a direct ferry from Palermo.

It was a lot cheaper to travel from Genoa or Livorgno to either Sardinia or Corsica but its a long drive from Sicily.

Hope this helps, how are you finding the roads and have they sorted the bin collections out?

Jon

Thanks Jon funny you should mention bins. Mimosa campsite (the town next to it and the beach up the road) was overflowing with it. Minisa was fine though - an oasis in the sea of rubbish! The campsite owner said it was worse than usual when we asked if there was a strike.
Thanks for the links. From my research there seems to be only night crossings from sicily and sardinia and first class pet friendly cabins with our dog may be too pricey. Im guessing we cant sleep in the moho....

Having visited Sardinia and Corsica on two separate trips, we have considered going to Siciliy several times and whenever we meet anyone whose done it we try and find out more. The usual story seems to be about really bad roads to get there and then lots of rubbish

We ve also been told by MHers who used to live on Sicily that the mafia got the bins contract and then took the money without doing the work and nobody challenged it. Not that we re accusing anyone of course......

If you can leave your dog for 12 hours in the moho and use the free seats to doze on then it would be about ÂŁ100 cheaper. This wasn't an option for us.

We were planning to go from Sicily to Sardinia and then Corsica this year but have decided to just spend longer in Sicily rather than rush it. My original plan was to take the ferry from Sicily to Sardinia but decided against it as we have a dog and I couldn't find much information on the dog kennelling arrangements so the alternative was to do both islands but using a short ferry to Corsica then on to Sardinia and returning the same way. The ferries were not too expensive I thought.

Good idea John. I'll do that another time . Makes sense to avoid the 12 hour sea journey.
