Anyone got there MH insurance with SAGA including trailer insurance & European breakdown and recovery to garage in the EU and then repatriation back to the UK !!!!
I have just spoken to Saga on Friday regarding taking out MH insurance with European breakdown cover, and all went well until I made sure that trailers wrrr covered not only by the Mh insurance but for breakdown and recovery and ultimately repatriation back to the UK. BUT I was told that Saga does not only NOT cover trailers under the Mh insurance, but they do not include trailer European breakdown recovery or repatriation either, they only insure Mh for vehicle insurance and European recovery and repatriation !!!!!!
Therefore if I am towing any sort of trailer, then they would not recover it from point of breakdown or repatriation back to the UK
Overall, is there any member On here that has been recovered with a trailer attached to a garage or been repatriated back to the UK !!!!!!!! Also if anyone has insurance with Saga and tows a trailer of any kind in the EU, then please check your insurance and European breakdown policy!!!!!! You could get really caught out here !!!!!!

Been toying around the topic of Breakdown cover myself recently as my Comfort policy is up for renewal.

I read about the £5k claim limit then played out scenarios (use cases) to check I was covered. If one suffers catastrophic failure, the likelihood is that you would look to repatriate the vehicle. I understand this point. However in reality, breakdowns are just that, a failure that you get fixed locally.

In all but a very small number of scenarios I could come up with, I would be getting my vehicle fixed wherever I am in Europe. If I need to go down the full recovery to UK scenario, if there was a slight delta between the £5k and the actual costs, I would have to self insure (pay) the difference.

WRT trailers, these are always covered in any breakdown policy I have ever seen. My guess is that the Saga representative doesn’t know what they are talking about? If I am wrong and they aren’t, what about covering these costs yourself in the (probably) very unlikely scenario that you need to?

We are with LV= and these are quoted from sections of our breakdown policy It does cover trailers etc if that’s any help.

any mechanically propelled vehicle, registered in the UK, that requires insurance for use on the public highway as specified under the Road Traffic Act 1988 and does not exceed any of the following dimensions when fully loaded: - Caravans and trailers - 8 metres in length (including A-frame).- Motorhomes - 8 metres in length or 7.5 tonnes in weight.-All other vehicles - 7 metres in length, 2.3 metres in width, 3 metres in height or 3.5 tonnes in weight. All vehicles must also meet the criteria specified in Section B - Vehicles

Section B
– Vehicles • Vehicles and any caravan or trailer that is attached to your vehicle must be registered as owned by you, or a member of your household, and be kept at your home address or the normal place of garaging as shown on our records (see Section H if you have paid an extra premium for Personal Cover). • Vehicles must be in a roadworthy condition and should be serviced and maintained in line with manufacturer guidelines and meet all legal regulations including, if appropriate, having a valid MOT certificate and any applicable vehicle tax. It is your responsibility to ensure that all vehicles are kept in this condition throughout the period of cover and we may ask for proof in the event of a dispute. The service does not cover vehicles which, in the opinion of the breakdown professional attending the vehicle, were not roadworthy or were broken down before your policy began. • For all vehicles, caravans or trailers and motorhomes you must always carry a legal and serviceable spare wheel or a manufacturer supplied or approved emergency tyre inflation kit and equipment and keys for any tyre security devices when supplied by the manufacturer. • Caravans and trailers – your cover includes any caravan or trailer that is attached to your vehicle at the time of the vehicle breakdown, unless the breakdown occurs at your home address or the normal place of garaging or within a ¼ of a mile of that address or the location at which your caravan or trailer is normally stored. Caravans and trailers must be fitted with a standard 50 millimetre ball coupling. All caravans and trailers must meet the requirements of the Road Vehicles (Construction and Use) Regulations 1986. • Unless you have purchased Personal Cover, we will not provide services for vehicles that are not registered with us. You must tell us immediately if you change your vehicle. Vehicle changes must be permanent and are not reversible. See Section H if you have paid an extra premium for Personal Cover. • Motorhomes – must be a recognised make and model which has been coach-built for that precise

am also insured with Comfort and my policy is due for renewal too, that’s one of the reasons I looked at another company as comfort also has removed Morocco from there cover, so I though I would try Saga as they definitely cover in Morocco and Turkey and Tunisia !!!! So as I would like the option to go to Morocco, I gave Saga a call, and was not happy with Mh being recovered from point of breakdown in the EU but trailer would not be recovered and left at point of breakdown to be collected when repairs carried out !!!! I would not leave my trailer on its own especially with a vehicle on it !!!!
I agree about getting repaired in the eu and have already done this in Portugal with engine repo instead of being repatriated home, but I was offered Mh and trailer to be repatriated, but with Saga you don’t even get trailer towed to garage
