Safety checklist before you go (1 Viewer)

OK, you have your RV all loaded up and are ready to head out, or back to home base...time to hit the road, right? WRONG!

While using a checklist is a great idea you still want to perform an outside Circle of Safety before getting on the road. It's easy, fast and very important.

To begin, step back from your RV far enough so you can see the entire rig; you're looking for the big stuff now. Start at the front and walk all the way around the coach, looking up at the roofline, down at the ground and along the sidewalls of your RV.

As you walk, verify the following:
Antenna(s) down
Vent covers lowered (if you can't step back far enough to see these, then you can go inside and check)
All utilities detached and stowed, sewer cap(s) attached
Leveling or stabilizer jacks retracted
Tires properly inflated, no obstructions
Exterior doors closed and locked
Entry door(s) closed and locked; step(s) retracted
Awning(s) secured
Windows closed
Propane turned off
Automotive lights functioning
Check tire pressure
Adjust rear view mirrors

Additionally, if towing, see that:
Tongue jack or landing gear fully retracted
All safety pins in place
All electrical cords attached with proper clearance
Safety chains secured
Electric brake breakaway cable securely attached

Finally, COUNT NOSES! Make sure the kids, dogs, cats, friends and assorted relatives are safely aboard and secured as applicable

We religiously do all those every time and even have the list laminated and clipped to the steering wheel and check them off before we move.

The worst we've done is drive off with the step still down (luckily spotted quite quickly in the wing mirror, before we kneecapped a pedestrian).:Doh:

Has any one driven off still connected? That would be my worst nightmare and might happen yet in the future.

:ROFLMAO: When we first got our Newmar. We camped for a week in our friends Lot and plugged into the Lot power supply for TV and other power requirements. When it came to shop for essentials needed for a long road trip. We set off down the road a mile to Walmart. Parked up and on walking across to the entrance. Looked back to see the TV aerial stuck up in the air. :ROFLMAO:

 That and the Satellite Dish is the only thing we check before setting off.
