I have seen a thread on this somewhere, but when you search for 'safe' you get hundreds of folk talking about gas regulators, brakes and steering!!

Problem is, they are very heavy and must be fitted to a main chassis member to be of any use. So what safes (or security ideas) have people got in their motorhomes?

I saw this one at 2.7 kg.

I doubt it would deter anyone for long, but the casual opportunist might not get inside.

What do people think?

Sorry I put this in the wrong bit of the forums. Can someone move it?

This is the safe that I’ve fitted to our Globecar Campscout and where I fitted it I drilled and tapped the fixing holes and bolted it and silka flexed it in.
It holds our passports, driving licences and all our travel documents plus our money.

I use a Pedalbox as a makeshift safe. Can fit an iPad mini, couple of phones, dash cam, satnav, wallet, house keys, etc.

Granted, it won't stop the pros (and nothing will), but like you say - it'll stop the opportunists (y)

STOP, WAIT - What the hell is that? Why have I never seen one of those before - Genius idea! Where did you get it from?

Why not have a lightweight safe somewhere obvious, as a decoy? With luck they'll run off with that and you'll be gone before they find that there's only pebbles inside!
Hide your valuables elsewhere.

We have a "safe" fitted under the passenger seat. It has never looked very safe and we don't put anything of value in it. I think the best thing is to hide anything important and don't take anything of value on a trip

Great idea , but would be even better if it was a bit more of a subtle colour

I’ve got one, it’s not bolted the chassis, just screwed to the floor but I don’t think anybody would find it and no I’m not telling where it is!!

This is the same as ours. It's just a nice size for passports, money, cards, phones, sat nav etc. I put 2 M10 bolts down through the floor with zebs on them that can't be unscrewed as they're next to something.
No use having a super secure heavy safe, I doubt if anyone would hang around making a noise long enough to get into even a light duty tin safe. They just gather up what they can see and leg it.

PS recommend the safe (y)

I keep my valuables hidden beyond the wit of any thief, in an old sock, under the squeaky floor board, behind the kitchen dresser...

JJ

I think you sock would be enough of a deterrent :rofl:

I have one of these as well and I also use it as a safe for small stuff and cash.

You can get them here, amongst other places;

Shop around and make sure it is suitable for your vehicle.

a decent perimeter alarm like Strikeback / Growler and a decoy, thief will not want to hang about so be in and out quick so will grab whats available and ... ! GO AWAY"!

well, thats my logic anyway..

We have always used two of those key safes. One in the gas bottle cupboard, the other in the garage. Both are fixed to each other with steel bolts. I have then covered them with metal electrical boxes with electric warning stickers on them. Not perfect but they will store all your cash credit cards etc. Some workup to get them out so prevents opportunists.

I like this idea, but rather than pebbles we better put inside a couple of statving vipers LOL
