I filled up my Safefill cylinder last week and when I came to turning the tap on this week it was making a little hiss.

Luckily, we have a calor cylinder as well so I swapped them over as I figured having a hissing gas cylinder was not a good idea.

Anyone have any ideas as to what I can do to fix this?

If its hissing with the tap off then you need to put that well away from everything and in a well ventilated area. šŸ˜²šŸ˜²

But if it's only when the tap is on then you will have a likely have leak at a union.

I had the same problem when using a gas pigtail made of brass tightened it slightly more and it cured the problem

I've just swapped over our gas cylinders today, as one ran out last night. My first attempt was by feel only as I couldn't see into the cupboard at the time and the connection hissed. Upon closer inspection I saw that the rubber pigtail had got left behind in the old cylinder valve. After prising it out of there and putting it back on the connector, all is fine.

Just to confirm, are you saying the black rubber tip on the brass connected had come loose and was left in the old cylinder?
If so, this needs to widely publicised as if buying used vans one may not know there should be a rubber tip and so lead to a dangerous situation.

That's exactly what happened.

That could be what's happened. I can't see a black rubber tip anywhere. Should the rubber be attached to the gas pipe/lead or to the cylinder itself?

it should be attached to the lead. Mine had come off within the cylinder connection, looking just like a flat washer until removed from there.

It would explain why one cylinder leaks and the other doesn't.

I bought them from the LPG Shop in Leicester. Plus a Tee piece to connect them together.

I had the same problem but found out that I had overfilled the tank after a few minutes it stopped, apparently the tank should only hold 80% and I had kept my hand on the button at the pump trying to get too much in it

you should not be able to do that there should be an auto cut off at 80%

I did find a black plastic circular thing in the cabinet David. It is flat on one site and curved on the other. I've attached some photos. Is that it?

That could be it as I did fill it right up, although I stopped as soon as the pump clicked off. Maybe I could connect it back up and leave it standing outside for ten minutes and see if it goes away.

That looks cool. So just to be clear, you have two Safefill cylinders, connected together, both at the same time, so you don't have to worry about swapping them over. If that is the case then you just need to fill them both up each time and you're good to go for weeks. Cool. I didn't know you could do that.

Yes, that looks like the type of rubber that should be on the end of the hose that goes into the gas bottle.

That is the sealing washer off the end of the fitting. Same thing used to happen to mine before swapping to permanently plumbed refillable system. That will be the cause of your hiss

I had a Safefill bottle that starting hissing, even with the handwheel off. A component of the valve itself had slightly unscrewed itself and needed nipping up with a special tool.

Thatā€™s exactly it - pop that back on the hose connector and your hissing should stop.

The flat end is the hose end, the thin end of cone goes into the cylinder connection.

We only ever have one open. When its empty we open the other one knowing we have at least three weeks to refill it. We do fill them both at the same time. The tee is a special gas non return valve type.
