We stayed at The Hawthorne Nightstop the week before last. It's in Oldham, a few miles outside the city, but has good bus and tram links into the city.
It's easy to think of Oldham as a run down old mill town but the site is a little oasis. There are country walks nearby and buses into town a short walk in both directions plus a pub just across the road. The owners, Steve & Julie, are very friendly and helpful and have made a great job of what they call a work in progress. Thoroughly recommended.
