Hi, We're planning on moving from the C&CC site at Cambridge (good site) tomorrow to Rutland Water for a day or two but struggling to find a site, CL or otherwise, around or within cycling distance of the reservoir. Can anyone offer any suggestions please.
The Caravan Club site at Fineshade looks interesting maybe?

Thanks
John and Di.

There is a camp site opposite the sailing club gate, it's just a field

Stopped there loads when sailing, ring them and ask
Or Google Rutland sailing club camping

Third vote for Lyndon Top. Over looks the water, cycle track passes the entrance.

This sounds perfect, especially with the cycle track. But, unfortunately can't locate in the C&CC book or on their website.
We'll go find it I'm sure (half the fun!) but any location or coordinates please?

It's a private site not a CL/CS
It's down the lane on the way to the Lyndon Osprey Visitor centre

Broken Link Removed

Enjoy.

Also there is a bus service that goes around the lake that you can hop on and off of as you wish for the day

Also my new favorite local place,

the guy who meets and greets has to be the nicest, most helpful person I have ever met!

Really chilled place as camping should be with excellent views and access to the lake and cycling trails

Early start today and we're really looking forward to this place, and hopefully meeting George.
Thanks for all your help.

looks lovely, we were planning to go there in August but thought there wouldn't be enough to see or do, looking at your photo I shall be nagging himself to make it a priority now.

If the weather stays like this I don't think you'll be dissapointed.
Arthur says its a 10min walk across the fields to the Golf Club clubhouse - for drinks and they serve meals.

Looks like a great site for a weekender, not too far from us. Do you know if they accept dogs couldn't see anything mentioned on their web site.

Hi, yes we've seen a couple of dogs around, on leads but not sure thats a rule or just common sense. The place is currently mostly empty, some of the (well cut) fields have no vans on at all.
We've really enjoyed our stay here and the 22 mile cycle ride around the water yesterday was really nice and an easy ride. Finished off with a drink at the pub in Manton.

Hi you two, just caught up, now home we had a great time at Rutland Water in April, have you cycled into Oakham yet well worth it, also the garden centre at the end is worth a look around. Have you been down to the Bird reserve yet. Keep enjoying. xx

Yes dogs are allowed, have to be on a lead but when we've been up there when it's quiet we let ours have a bit of a run, seem ok as long as you keep an eye on them. When walking on the cycle track there are signs for dogs to be on lead on some parts, maybe best to be on the lead because of the bikes. I think dogs can go in the Wheatsheaf pub.

Hi Both,
We left the site this morning and drove in Oakham (Note: there is a small carpark reserved just for coaches and campervans, has 5 bays and is free of charge. Follow signs for Coach Park). Lovely town and market was on.
Just in Melton Mowbray, demolished a pie from Dickinson & Morris Olde Pie Shoppe!
Bakewell next for cakes!
