Has anyone converted their diesel engines to run on veggie oil. I have been looking at Link Removed site and it looks like a good idea on the face of it.

Veggy Diesels

We were stand-in managers of a private site at Saltash where a taxi driver, with a seasonal pitch on site, had a converted mercedes taxi. You could hear it coming from a mile away and it smelled of fish and chips! No kidding!

The chap had a contract with the local 'distiller' of used oils and reckoned he paid about half price and got similar mpg but it did smell awful - unless you were hungry.

wouldnt risk trying it on the newer generations of diesal engine like are fitted in our fiat or peugeot M/Hs. Older simpler diesals run fine on it.

It depends on what fuel injector pump you have.
Generally the Bosch pumps are OK but don't try it on a Lucas - CAV pump

Have a look at this Link Removed. There is a good discussion on there about this by people who are actually using the stuff: There is even a link to a company that will convert Lucas-CAV pumps!

Baloothebear,

Interesting comments on that site, but two thoughts come to mind.
1. TVO ( Tractor Vaporising Oil ) Petrol & Central Heating Oil can be mixed together to make a fuel, but you must have a licence from Customs & Excise.
2. For a few years we have not had a really hard frost. Diesel has problems waxing in really hard frost, I would have expected Cooking Oil to have been worse, but I would not like to be the first to find out.

That's why it is heated prior to mixing and injecting

Since 2005 ish
Our td5 runs great on a mixture of 30 diesel to 20 veg oil and it runs better than ever.

Hi folks
Do you mix anything into the veg-oil prior to use or just bung-it-in?
Fancy the idea of cutting the fuel bills for our pajero :thumb:

Thanks for the info folks, i went to the pajero owners website and some are using
50/50 straight veg oil and others are using 100% bio-diesel with no ill effects.
Think we'll go the 50/50 route for now :thumb: cos to be honest i'm not to certain
of my own ability to produce bio-derv
Looks a bit complicated from what i'm reading
I'll let you know if anything happens :thumb:
