We used to do that, but sometimes ended up in some real fleapits so these days when we've decided where we're going next we tend to book something for the first couple of nights via booking.com or airbnb then look locally if we want to stay longer. Our accommodation in Luang Prabang found by wandering the budget area. Mrs Barryh under the brolley. It would have been just a few pounds, probably £5 or so. We have stayed in huts for a couple of quid. Prices will have moved on of course since 2011.
