Run to the sun….

90/180 is not the reason we've been 6 times. But it is marmite.
I must admit Jon, it’s the only reason I am considering going when I retire, if I could spend 365 in the EU (notice I didn’t say 365 in the same country) I would, especially Germany😉👍👍

I have followed thread but nothing about Morocco makes me want to go there in a Motorhome (to date)

Not my cup of tea either, but then I don’t have the 90/180 problem👍

I’m not sure any of the threads sell it to me but I still want to go and see for myself, I still think we’ll enjoy it even if we don’t love it and only one way to find out.

have a large 'virtual' fresh cod available to whack the next one who stirs it up again, be warned boys and girls ... my aim is spot on and the height or lack of stature of the receiver doesn't affect my accuracy especially in the region I aim for! 😄
im up for that minxy but can you tie me up first

As some have said it’s different to most European trips.

What I would say if you have travelled around large parts of Asia, we did backpacking adventures to the likes of Myanmar, Laos, Vietnam etc, and enjoyed those trips I’m pretty sure you’ll enjoy Morocco. The rubbish is worse in Asia than Morocco IMV. In both Asia and Morocco there are many interesting and varied things to see and experience and almost universally the people are great. Both are definitely not Europe, I mean that in a good way. I’ve now been to Morocco 4 times in the van and really enjoyed each trip, if you’re into history there is loads to see, breathtaking views and drives, interesting cuisine, good weather and we’ve met some great people. To some extent it does help our Schengen days but we came here before it was ever an issue. The large number of French and German motorhomers aren’t here for Schengen days! What I would say it’s a country which is changing quite quickly so if you want to see more of the older Morocco the next few years would be a good time to visit.

But hey we are all different I just though some might be interested in my take on things.

PS: Mrs B has just said there are too many people from Europe already here why are you encouraging more to come!!! So please don’t come otherwise I’m in the dog house.

Good post Steve, to be honest I wasn’t really looking forward to Morocco as I’ve been many years ago and I’ve been to Tunisia in recent years but mainly tourist areas and thought it would be similar but it’s not really… but this is the reason I love motorhoming as it takes you through the real country you are visiting and not just the shiny sterile tourist traps, even Spain has areas that are not very appealing to a tourist but they are great to find and discover the “real” place…

I’m sort of stoic in life and the poor people and scabby dogs (although I haven’t seen many) is something I’m aware of but I can see past it, I’ve seen just as bad on a street in the uk if you go looking for it, there’s rich and poor everywhere…

But it’s a different culture that’s for sure and the strong religion is evident but times are indeed changing but I would say that if people are adventurous and looking for an adventure then Morocco is the place because it is so different to anywhere in Europe…
It’s about the only place left for motorhomers to experience a true wilderness which feels like a risk to be there and expecting the unexpected, it’s certainly a place you have to plan a bit more and make preparations every time you travel even in short distances conditions can change, I’m starting to move in land tomorrow and looking forward to another adventure from the safety and small comfort of being on a site… it feels like I’m off to the wilderness and outback exploring and perhaps never to be seen again….☺️😎

That’s exactly what I said , he has a different way to most people , and at times hard to understand but he is what he is and very open about that , he has never hidden or apologised for his mannerisms or attitudes SO we accept him for who he is
I think what we all need to remember here is that written words on a forum are not the same as talking to someone face to face. Emotions are very difficult to convey (unless you are a gifted writer or poet, which most of us are not) on these medias and unless you know the person personally then it is hard to judge what is going on in their mind.

Germany is not good in the winter. Unless you want to go skiing other Eu countries aren't that good in the winter, Spain is about the best in but too busy and the weather isn't generally that reliable in Feb and March. Greece is a maybe but again weather can be iffy.

There are lots of places you can go that are great in the winter which dont use up EU days, but Morroco is the only one that is realistically accessible with your own motorhome with best chance for decent weather.

That’s right, there have been some days that it’s been too hot for me, just like a hot summers day in the uk…☀️😎

Luckily for me Jon, I’m not too bothered about chasing the sun although it’s nice, it’s not a necessity for me (we’ve just come back from new year in Switzerland) but I DO want to experience Morocco, and also Turkiye 👍👍

Must admit Morroco is definitely not on our radar but fair play to them who go and enjoy it. Just not for us, although enjoy reading about it🙂

You'll enjoy when you head inland then Garry, its much cooler.... 🤔 🤣

It’s around 2c at night next week in tafraoute …🥶 I’ll have to put the heating on again…😆

It’s a good job I’ve got a gas hose for a local cylinder …😎

Only been to Marocco once that was by plane. Flew to Marrakesh, didn't like all the hassle people constantly trying to sell you stuff and latch onto you as guides.
We hired a car for a couple of days enjoyed that even though we drove over the High Atlas with it snowing and nearly ran out if petrol in the Sub Sahara.

Came back and spent two weeks between bed & bog with Salmonella.

Still thought I wanted to go back in the Motorhome but going off the idea now, it's got too fishy. 🤣

Africa & Asia are out of my comfort zone.
Been to Thailand, Bali, India & Cambodia. Never feel comfortable like I do in Europe.
Even though youngest daughter lives in Bangkok I'm not that keen on being dragged out there. The boss has been a couple of times without me she loves it, one time I took myself off to France in the van.

These threads have definitely put me off it and almost impossible to get proper insurance now.

Also sounds too flipping cold at least Thailand you can guarantee 30°🤣

We often describe Morocco as "India meets France" but having reacquainted ourselves with India last year we think that Morocco is definitely getting more modern, whereas India is still India. This year we are noticing more western dress, bikinis at Sidi Kaouki , and more western influence; we've seen service stations with Mcd and BK and a Hyper U.

Fir any that fancy doing India lite - we think Sri Lanka is a good compromise and you can self-drive.

I can see what you mean about comfort zones. We have been to Morocco and really enjoyed it, especially the high Atlas, but I am not sure whether we ever fully relaxed. A friend asked us three days agogo join them on a motorhome trip there this September, to my surprise Claire was all for it, but I am unsure reading these blogs. It looks like there are some fantastic things to see and nice weather, not sure about 2C in the night though and I don't want food poisoning!

We are heading to Vietnam, Cambodia and Laos in four weeks for nearly two months with back packs and nothing booked so we will see how we feel about exploring further afield.

Garry, heading inland from where you are a pitstop in Guelmim is worth a look..
the camel market is something to behold, there's lots of other stuff to see too, you can park directly opposite it there's a big area with loads of room, I've stayed overnight there a couple of times and it's fine, it's definitely a good opportunity to get some great photos & probably your first taste of real Berber life 🙂

Having backpacked all of those places I’m sure I would enjoy Morocco. However I couldn’t subject the love of my life to it, obviously I’m referring to the Moho and not Mrs Barryh 😂. As far as rubbish goes India trumps the lot.
