Run to the sun….

Where Garry is and the closed off aire?

Never been, but I presumed it was normally open in November +, from what I read on here, more of them are converting from being free to payment?
🤔
It's campsites though , they've never been free. Still absolutely loads of free parking and service areas in Spain though and in France. I haven't paid for a parkup or for services since I left the UK.

Let's face it, I doubt if you paid for much parking even when you were still in the UK!

Others don't find it so easy? 😄

Which is strange considering you can't get into any sites and the aire is overflowing
Everyone escaping the cold north .

I doubt they would all close up if there was money to be made, maybe winter travellers don't spend as much out and about unless they are in Benidorm.
Maybe difficult to get staff over the winter period..... not so many students available.

The unemployment rate is about 3x the UK an we think we are lazy!
A bit harsh. I think it is genuine difficulty finding work rather than laziness. Our son-in-law is Spanish/ English. We know of quite a few of his friends who are graduates and cannot find work during the winter and have to do bar work in the summer. It’s quite depressing for them.

Why do you think most NL’s And Germans tow box trailers…. They’ve got Half a Lidl store in them.😆

Most of the restaurants on our walk today were closed, it looks like some open only in the evening, but the ones that were open during the day had plenty of customers…🍻

First thing on site is nice long showers and get the cooking stuff out and have a few beers, can’t do that in a carpark…😉 well except if your French 😆

Sitting in the van now with hot water on tap and a little heater gently warming my butt on electric, fast Wi-Fi and having a few beers… just had a proper rain shower, the first since coming over to st-malo 3 weeks ago, I’ve had drizzle but not proper rain..,

Site mostly Germans and a few NLs, they all give a Guten Morgen when passing and when I reply in my best Berlin accent they all look at my number plate and look confused…🤣😂 especially when Cintia starts rambling on in Brazilian Portuguese…🤣

Sites ok, nice swimming pool complex, toilets dated but clean functional and heated 10amp of power and I’m loving having my own personal Wi-Fi router in the van, two phones iPad radio and tv streaming of it…👍🏼👍🏼 massive pitch with a sink with water/waste… only downside is I’ve got to go to the other side of the camp for the disabled toilet/shower… only two minutes but hey ho…😎

Booked on to Bonterra park for next week…😎☀️🍻🍻

Brought back a few memories Garry...

We like El Eden,( or is it called Camping Eden) now?

I cycled across to Mercadona once for 'a couple of bits' only to find my favourite Rioja on offer.....
Decided my bike was up to carrying a couple of cases of it. Managed to ride out of the carpark then blew the rear inner tube. Had to push the bike all the way back!!

First time we ever stayed there. Allocated a pitch with the a tree in the middle making it a tight fit. Margaret was giving directions but within 2 minutes we had 6 men of 3 different nationalities giving directions in their own language!!

Last time we were there, I had got some lovely sea trout from Mercadona and was steaming it with lemon and herbs on the pitch when the only other Brit on site(next pitch) commented that it smelled good. They were invited to join us and we had a good "long lunch" in the sunshine.

Wanting to return the favour, Janet, our neighbour insisted we have Sunday Lunch with them in 4 days time.
Being winter time, I advised them to keep plans fluid for the weather.
Sunday arrived and was not a good weather prospect with a strong easterly wind. Despite offers of postponement, use of our van etc, Janet insisted we have Sunday Lunch, outside, on their pitch at the appointed time.
I think we used every item of outdoor clothing we had including hats, scarves and gloves to sit outside and eat the lunch.... much to the amusement of fellow campers:giggler:🥶

Like you, we invariably found El Eden very well patronised and on our last couple of visits have used the camper stop at Area la Brisa.

Enjoy Peniscola!!

Had a great day today, nice lay in and up and out around 12 noon.
Lovely and wam for shorts and T-shirt.

Out of the site and just at the end of the road to the beach an saw Tams van parked up, no one in so guess he’s gone into town and 5 minutes later walk-in to the castle he comes along and the dogs see me and go crazy..🐕🐕🤪😆

Quick chat and on with our trip to see the castle….

Well we went the road way and got to the top with a couple of stops for refreshments, it was hard work on the road as it is lined with pebbles sideways up not cobbles so it was a rattling bumpy journey but it was well worth it, it is a beautiful little town with lots of little artisans shops and trades, touristy but tasteful it really was a lovely place to see it all and I’m glad of the time we visited as I could imagine bedlam in the summer the views are very photogenic…

This was a blow hole quite some way in the castle and was giving some good booms.. occasionally with a little spray coming up, quite a spectacle if the sea was rough I’d imagine…

On the way back we stopped for dinner and we were in there for ages as the owner was Brazilian so the girls had a chin wag… yadda yadda…😆🤣

Glad you both got to see it. We walked from Benecarlo to visit it at this time of year. Although some places are closed it’s nicer I think. I would not want to be there in the mad season. 👍

Your like me, always looking for the fish! 🤣
I've a couple of fishing spots I want us to check out in Morocco plus a big carp lake we'll have to give a chuck together when we're there 🙂💪🐟
and don't worry if you've no gear with you, I've always got my fishing stuff in the van, my Mrs says I've more gear than Bob Nudd!

I met him on the River Bann a couple of times he was talking about buying a house over here in Ireland because the fishing was so good, don't know whether he ever did buy one in the end, but a nice fella
