The fiat ducato ecu / key ./immobiliser system is documented in your ducato handbook:
This is an electrical engine immobiliser system which increases protection against attempted theft of the vehicle. It is automatically activated when the ignition key is removed. Each key contains an electronic device which modulates the signal emitted during ignition by an antenna built into the ignition device. The modulated signal, which changes each time the engine is started, is the “password”, by means of which the control unit recognises the key and enables to start the engine. OPERATION Each time the vehicle is started turning the ignition key to MAR-ON,
the Fiat CODE system control unit sends a recognition code to the engine control unit to deactivate the inhibitor. The recognition code is sent only if the Fiat CODE system control unit has recognised the code transmitted from the key. Each time the ignition key is turned to STOP, the Fiat CODE system deactivates the functions of the engine management control unit.

The code is printed on a credit card sized label given to the new owner. Good luck with programming of the BCU.

Thank you for that. We were not given the card and this is where the problem lies ?

Bit of useless information here regarding the key code ....
We had a ECU issue and the key could not see the truck! The dealer said "go through the code details and all will be ok" . We said...New ECU and no code!
He then said....."Turn the ignition on and leave it on the drive for up to 24hrs"??
He did mention that the truck be on electric hook up whilst this is going on.
No word of a lie...4 hours later...The key saw the truck and all was ok!!!

The code is normally on a Bank type card in the log book. If it goes missing...a dealer will explain the way forward and trust me ...this works

Cards are not supplied with vans built to UK spec. Whether yours is a UK van or the card has been lost the answer is the same. You need to go to a Fiat Professional dealer with your V5C and proof of ID and they will obtain the code from Fiat's servers in Italy.

And for anyone with a code card who keeps it in the van:

1 - Vauxhall used a similar system and cars were being stolen by thieves in possession of diagnostic equipment stolen from dealers.

2 - I have an app on my phone, downloadable from the Google Play Store, with which I can program a new key to a Sevel van should I have access to the code card.

So if you have a card, please keep it somewhere safe NOT IN THE VAN!
