I'll second that - Campsites at:

Burgos - http://www.campingburgos.com/01_principal.php?lang=EN [ACSI discount]

Aranjuez (south of Madrid) - https://www.lamarinaresorts.com/resorts/camping-aranjuez/ [ACSI discount]

We've also used an OK site north of Madrid a couple of times - very handy for the motorway - Camping Pico de Miel - https://www.picodelamiel.com/el-camping/

Going south, after Aranjuez, we normally cut off south-east towards Alicante and on to Almeria (our usual destination), rather than down to Granada.

Oh, and if going west via Cáceres, Camping Cáceres - another ACSI site - which is good - individual toilets/showers on each pitch! https://www.campingcaceres.com/

Depends how keen you are on motorways!

We have been Burgos Valladolid Avila Talavera de la Reina Orellana la Vieja Cordoba Malaga.
Also Haro Soria Medinicelli Cuenca Castillo de Garimunoz Chinchilla de Monte Aragon Murcia then along the coast.

Plenty of aires and a few Camperstops; lots of scenery plus a taste of authenticity.

We normally take Speve 's route. There are good stops also at Palencia and Merida.
@Rapido925's route sounds interesting. We may try a version of it in 2022🤞

Yes; I've also been down the "western" route including Salamanca, Trujillo (home of the spanish inquisition and pimento), and Montfrague National Park (stop to see the vultures!).

And for my sins, I've also done the motorways to Madrid and Granada, getting to Malaga in 2 days! :(

Probably one of the most interesting little towns where we have stopped is Penafiel: it has the narrowest castle in Spain, perched high on a ridge above the town, and an intriguing town square where they hold a fantastic ceremony on Easter Sunday.

We are heading down that way in late October but, by car. Some great ideas on here for when we do it in the MH though. Before we take the MH we need to find a secure storage for it as we stay in an apartment. Any suggestions for that would be greatly appreciated. If you are down there and find you are waved at by a grey Merc BBB, don't panic. 🤣
Safe travels all 👍

Tordesillas is fantastic at Easter, too. It's a very traditional town. There's a decent campsite there, but vans also park near the camsite, on the river bank.

There’s a good free aire at Palencia as well with toilets, shower and hook up all they ask is that you fill up with diesel at their garage😊
