Autosleeper Rienza

Hi,

New member here!

I've bought myself an old 2002 autosleeper rienza. I've been delighted with it so far, its in great condition for its age, or so I thought!

When I was giving it a clean earlier I noticed there is a very small area in the corner beneath the garage/ rear seating/bed area, where the bottom layer of ply has rotten. I have hacked away all of the manky ply and it has rotten through to the polystyrene insulation material above in two small patches. I've had a good look at the rest of the floor and it all seems solid.

I've attached a couple of photos I took.

What would be the best option for repairing this?

Cheers

David

Stick some bits of brown cardboard against the areas for a while and see if they show any dark patches from damp still getting in. Soaking the outside with a hose will help.

That's a good idea! Will give it a try. I wonder if water has made its way in through the garage access hatch.

When i can eliminate the source of any water ingress, if it still exists, would it be a straight forward enough repair to replace a section of floor? Or do you think could I go down the bodge route and treat the surrounding wood and use a filling compound to cover it?

Our 55 plate Rienza was found to have damp in the n/s corner and under the side locker door. I think we caught ours before it got too bad.
The people that did the repairs said the floor was damp but not rotten. It was mostly the wall under the door and the rail were the side joins the wall.
The side locker doors on motorhomes and caravans are notorious for letting water past the seals. There is no adjustment on the catches so when the seals get old they can let water in. Also that locker is often used for things like water hoses and other outdoor equipment.
We find that corner of the Rienza has always felt cold. We keep a blanket on that seat. It can’t help that the heating stops at the centre of the middle seat. I had thought of extending the ducting on ours.
Another cold spot we found is the area above the fridge were the worktop slides out. We hang the pot towel over the edge until we can be bothered to sort that.
They are a nice motorhome if a little dated by today’s designs. We have had ours five years now and have no intentions of changing it.

I'll look at replacing the garage door seal. It's my first motorhome, but I love the internal layout! It's very spacious.

I just want to get it sorted. I think I'll contact some repair workshops.

Not sure were you are but Bardney Garage near Lincoln sorted ours. They found the problem during the habitation service.
