I am a newbie
Got some pre wash today from a local supplier for the motorhome roof to remove all the grim but wasn’t impressed, who could recommend a good product that works.

You can try wet and forget, I did half the roof last week (to see if it works) and will check it in a couple of weeks to see if it worked, otherwise Jennychem caravan cleaner is good but some people have found it leaves streaks that require machine polishing out.

Sprayed a coat of Patio Magic on my roof last week. Gave a good wash off on Sunday. It was in desperate need, but came up really clean and shiny.

Autoglym caravan and motorhome cleaner spray on wash off couldn't believe the crap that comes off. Also turned all the white strips gleaming. Just don't leave it on to long it goes a wee bit sticky 👍

Now that the hosepipe ban has been lifted in Yorkshire I'm going to bring the van home in a few days for a good scrub.
I'll likely treat him to a coating of Wet & Forget afterwards, before taking him back to the yard.

Is this the stuff I need to be getting?...

I used it last year and found it wasn't that great and yes, messy streaks. I got rid of the streaks eventually. I've never had much success with any of them. I tried the Patio magic on the old van but it did absolutely nothing. Mind you on the old van it had one of those dimpled roofs like the surface of a golf ball. Nothing short of a nuclear strike would get the crap off that. The new van is smooth so maybe ill try it again in the spring or try Wet and forget. Same stuff I think. Well I say "I". My handman roof cleaner perhaps. :D

It definitely works but if the roof is as bad as mine was you need a stiff brush and a fair bit of elbow grease. Below are part way through the job.

It works very well but its better at prevention than cure , mind you I spray mine twice a year and it rarely needs a proper wash

"Serves you right for not reading the instructions, you daft twat!"

Those encouraging words from our lass came after I entered the house this afternoon and opened the freshly delivered parcel from Amazon containing the bottle of Wet and Forget, having spent the best part of three hours scrubbing and rinsing off the van, even risking my life by standing on a platform to get the roof spotless.
High up on the instructions I read, 'do not hose first'
DOH! 🤦‍♂️

So if anyone's interested we sprayed the back half of the roof with wet and forget two weeks ago and left the front as was, the area around the skylight was cleaned as we were doing some maintenance on the sky light mechanism but the rest of the front of the roof is what the back was like two weeks ago, we've now sprayed the front with wet and forget and will monitor it every few weeks to see if it improves it, the roof was last cleaned at the beginning of March this year.

Just piggy backing onto this thread. Rather than re invent the wheel. I tend to use telescopic ladders to access the roof 3.2m high but I can’t reach the middle and when things like solar panels and sky lights are in the way it makes it almost impossible.
So simple question is it acceptable to walk on a motorhome roof to clean it properly acknowledging all trip hazards etc..

Personally I wouldn't trust any make, some people do say German MOHOs are ok to walk on but never tried. If you use Autoglym caravan and motorhome cleaner leave it for 10min and all the cr4p just comes off with a soft brush and hose.

Hope this helps

Cheers

I might have to try some of that then 👍🏻

I've just done wet and forget for the first time, it's been the first dry day we've had for a while when I've not been doing other stuff, roof is a mess as it's been up against conifers ....

And no I didn't swill the motorhome first, though I was tempted to clean it all first but I stuck to the instructions, which is unusual...

Wet and forget is the only thing that has worked for me its unbelievable.

A week later and it's shifted a lot of the grime. I'm going to have to give it a go over with cleaning brush etc, but it's a lot better than it was to be fair and I would use it again and will respray with it again once I've got it fully cleaned.

Use what the dealers use for pre sale preparation
diluted G101, hand spray on to pre wetted roof, leave 2 /3 minutes and rinse off
if accessible wrap a micro fibre cloth around a floor cleaner sponge,
and give a quick wipe over you will be amazed

After 4 years of ignoring it, I used Jennychem on mine, and it made some difference. It took a bit of brushing of the areas I could reach with a microfibre-type washing broom. It's now an annual task in the summer when it is dry, but later in the day, so it doesn't dry on the van.
