Hi all, (are Roller Team owners called anything in particular? Teamsters?).
We have a 670 (2013) which, if you arent familiar with it, has a massive skylight in the roof. One day last summer, on a particularly hot day, i was busy sat down doing nothing and suddenly heard a cracking sound. Didnt know where it came from but a few minutes later i wandered back into the van, looked up and saw that a split had appeared in the skylight, probably 10cm long on the outer skin and a couple long on the inner skin. As thunderstorms were imminent i covered the split with elephant tape to stop leakage, which worked, and then it needed to continue work for a few more months longer because i cant find a replacement skylight!
I later ascertained that perspex windows can occasionally go brittle and split under the tension of being fixed in place on your van, dont know if this is more of a risk with larger 'windows', And heat doesnt help, although with the van coming from Italy you would think that it should cope with UK heat.
At the time the van was under warranty, so i notified the dealers(not Roller Team specialists) who started to look for a replacement. Nothing could be found in the UK, spare, scrapyard or new.
Dealers then contacted a Roller Team importer who contacted Italy. No problem they said, give us a part number and we will send one over, which after a few weeks they did, the wrong one! Sent it back, resent details, got another replacement, wrong again !!
By now we had ascertained that Roller Team had kept using the same old part numbers for newer parts on newer models of Motorhome, which are often of different dimensions than the originals. Having discovered this, and explained the problem, and provided precise dimensions as well as part numbers we reordered. Unfortunately Covid and Lockdown appeared and it has taken until only last week for the replacement to appear, wrong again !!!!!!!
In between last summer and now the split has got wider, been temporarily repaired with sealant a couple of times, and the elephant tape is still on there for added security.
Our dealers are now suggesting that they give up looking, do a more permanent(but not invisible) repair on the skylight and thats it.
We are concerned that it going to look a mess and devalue the vehicle.
Has anybody got any ideas as to what we can do next? Any contacts in the UK or Italy? Is it feasible to somehow fit a smaller, available skylight?
