A Pace 1000 Javelin Sky box would fit the bill. It runs on 12v or 240v, uses less than 1amp at 12v and is very compact. They sometimes appear on eBay for £50 or maybe a bit more and don't need a viewing card but are best with one as it will then regionalise BBC1, if that's important to you.

You can do without these things, Watch the world go bye, Look at the wife and think of how much I love her. Go for a good walk and a meal and a drink, Have an hour fishing and have a BBQ. We don't need telly we are the campers who can socialise and talk to our friends and neighbours and to relax.
Best wishes my friend.
