We rely on 4G/5G for on-the-go TV entertainment and happily watch it on an iPad. Our van has a RoadPro Mini dome, fitted in 2019, and we have an AVTEX L218DRS tele which has its own case and sits in a cupboard at home, unused.

So, it seems daft to leave the RoadPro in situ unused and the tele at home so I'm going to remove it and sell them both.

Question - what's the recommended remedial work to the exterior when removing stuff like this? A patch to cover the whole area where the RoadPro sat or just plug any holes? Anything I need to be aware of removing it? Also, is there a case for leaving it in situ in case we decide to sell the van or is having this kit rarely a deal-breaker - I would say it's unlikely we'll be selling the van any time soon.

We've also got the normal external TV antennae, the one that has the pole that can be controlled from inside, that I also want to remove. That obviously leaves a bigger hole and I'm guessing there's a dedicated blanking kit for that?

Finally, is there a market for this type of kit (the dome and tele)?

Thanks in advance,

You can just remove the roadpro sat dish, leaving the base attached to your roof. That way you can always replace it when you sell it? The cables might need to be pulled through back into the motorhome or secured in some way and left in situ (which is what I would try to do)
Just remember to store it somewhere safe as the domes can become very brittle and break.

If you don't use the TV, I would consider selling it sooner rather than later, because as technology changes the TV might become less desirable.

Thanks MisterB but I think I'd prefer to just sell it so I assume the purchaser would want the base plate. My concern this that by the time I sold the van the RoadPro would be worthless whereas just now it likely has some value?

Most people including us are switching over to firesticks and using data to watch catchup and netflix etc, the way the Bbc has steadily shrunk the footprint means satelites are only of any use in Uk and a small increasingly smaller part of europe. I watched F1 qualifying this morning on all4 and prob do the same with race tomorrow morning and I'm in Spain.

We also tend to watch TV via data streaming in the UK but do like having a sat dish for foreign travel and where data is difficult to log onto ( though we do have a Netgear M2 and I don't recall it never picking up some sort of signal) TV via satellite is free though ....unless you need to buy a dish etc. I think it will still be a potential selling point if it can be refitted. It won't make your van worth more but it might be a nice little add on.

PS I am Hereford in the Funster Rally and saw quite a few vans with their sat dishes pointing into the sky at various times, even though we can get a great streaming signal here !!

Which perhaps suggests there's a market for it?

Well if you ve got it and it works for you then why not but I would suspect the market for people having one fitted is dropping off, unless your spending a lot of time in the wilds of Scotland or Wales, you can buy a lot of data for the cost of a dome or dish

Or just sell it needing a replacement base, readily available?
Looks like it's just four screws and gunk, more feet than a base plate.

We have a dish, but also have chromecast and firestick as backup, always prefer to use the dish where possible as easier to switch channels, can record to watch anytime, better, more reliable picture and can use abroad without roaming charges.

We're just not normal tele watchers. Even at home we only watch on-demand stuff and that can be downloaded easily. Time to ditch this kit :)

Try putting an add in the classifieds for both , I would have thought the TV would sell easy enough.

Yes that’s what I would do but op said he wants to sell

I'm a devil for keeping stuff, never using it then binning it once it's worthless :) Gonna sell 'em :)
Honestly, we connect an iPad Air to an Ultimate Ears Bluetooth speaker and it's ace.

Dave I’ve done that very thing on my van .
PVC with big snipe dome and avttex, didnt like it fiddly thing and looked a bit carbuncly, and removed it with much advice from funsters.
Left the brackets on, they are no sweat up there and dont whistle or anything, was cautioned about removing them( more aggro than worth) so it all came off and just blanked the connector.,base plate cones off too.
Advertised on here and funster had it for free ( not the tv) paying postage. Wrapping it was fun.
We now use the tv with the best purchase ever, a little plug in aerial from Amazon ( 15 quid) brilliant reception. Laptop or firestick abroad. Very happy

I'm at Hereford, gave up trying to stream even put my phone sim in the Mifi which is connected to a MIMO roof aerial. One of the few times I have not been able to stream anywhere in Europe.
Had to put the sat dish up to watch F1.

But next van I won't bother with a sat dish as we very rarely use the Motorhome in the UK.

Stop slacking!

Get to work on the old (what looks like Snipe) satellite base plate!:giggler::getmecoat:

Might take the, if it ain't broke, approach with that one instead of my usual "if it ain't broke, fix it until it is" approach :)

I'm using my Netgear M2 (without an external antenna) - streaming isn't an issue, have watched a film each night via the firestick with no buffering. Only buffering Ive had was while watching catch up on All 4 (but it didn't last long). It's using a Three sim at the moment.

Sod's law suggests that when you remove something permanently you suddenly discover a use for it ... I think I saw something on the internet re using and old sat system for mounting a solar panel and then tracking the sun .....

Plusnet sim on EE, OK for browsing can stream on the phone but useless on TV via android box, obviously full screen streaming uses a lot more data than a mobile.
